Thumbs up - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Took my two boys ages 14 and 11 to see the newest Harry Potter movie today. We all enjoyed it thoroughly!

They left out a lot of the story in order to make the movie just over two hours long ... major pieces of it are missing entirely, so die hard fans of the book might be disappointed; the movie flows, though. It wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it was going to be, although it does have its dark moments, especially when the dementors appear - very creepy. I think it would be OK for kids about 7 or 8 and up though... maybe younger depending on the individual.

Loved Buckbeak, loved Professor Lupin (until his secret is revealed ). Professor Trelawney (Emma Thompson) is as wacky as you might expect... very entertaining!

I found it a bit awkward to hear the "new" Dumbledore speaking. If I closed my eyes, his voice sounded like it was Professor Snape talking. I found that distracting... and found Dumbledore's character not as likeable as in the first two movies. I'm not sure if that's due to the casting change or the way the movie was directed.

I don't want to say any more... go see it, and enjoy!

My DD,DS,DH and I just got home from Harry Potter. It was wonderful, and all the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.
I haven't read the books, although my children have read them all. It was well done, and as Surferbabe mentioned, Buckbeak was enchanting. I also agree with Surferbabe that it might be too intense for very young children, but the older kids seemed to love it. Mine are older, 12 and 16, and actually my DD managed to see it twice in one weekend.
Would highly recommend this even if you haven't seen the other two films.
