Newly diagnosed with cervical cancer 1a1

Hi, Fay!
Enjoy your vacation!! It will be some much needed R&R before your surgery.

I also want to say that this thread is helping me to think twice about keeping my cervix when/if they recommend a TAH/bSO for me. I figured why not keep it, I always have my PAP on time. I see from your experiences, that it isn't always reliable. Thanks for sharing!

Newly diagnosed with cervical cancer 1a1

Welcome and s

I wish you the best of luck and I know that you have made the best decision for you. I, myself, did not go for regular paps but even when I did they came out normal even the one done by a ob/gyn just before my surgery. The reason I had my hyst was due to an elevated ca125 and a pelvic mass, I thought I had ovca but I didnt. I ended up with cervical cancer. Either way the word Cancer conjures up the dreaded monstor that everyone is afraid of. I would have had the hyst even if I didn't think I had ovca and was diagonosised with cervical cancer before hand. I believe that God had his hand in there to make sure that the cancer was caught and treated.

God Bless and best wishes

Newly diagnosed with cervical cancer 1a1

Hi gals. The hospital called with my surgery date yesterday. It will be July 19 - the same day I get back from my vacation. Things will be a little rushed as I get off the plane in Calgary at 10 p.m. Sunday night and have at least a 6 hour drive to the hospital for the surgery Monday morning. Oh well, I'll be getting lots of sleep that day! I'm just relieved that everything is scheduled. Now I have to pack my vacation bag and my hospital bag before we leave on July 1st!

I am glad that you have a surgery date. Has your doctor advised you of any preps that you may have to do on your way home. Such as only clear liquids or the awful bowel prep. You might ask him if hadn't already told you. I just thought I would ask as you said that you would be coming home just the day before your surgery.

Hi Jane. I have to call the hospital on the Friday afternoon before the surgery for specific instructions. But the nurse called yesterday and said I would have to pick up a suppository for use that Sunday night. I told her I would be driving most of the night but I should be able to use it when I get home around 4 a.m. and then hit the road again for the remaining 1 1/2 hour drive. She said it would take 15-20 minutes to work. I hope she was right!

well wishes

Good luck with your surgery -- have a wonderful trip....better to take it before than after so you can really enjoy yourself.

I've been away so missed answering the questions you had for me -- I see your surgery was the 18th so when you're back home, send me a PM.
My cancer had an usual spread -- it went from the cervix straight to the lymph nodes without infecting any other areas (i.e. uterus, ovaries, etc.). This happens only 3% of the time so it's rare.
I hope that your surgery went well.
