Cervical cancer -- what were your symptoms, if any?

Jules,
I am glad to hear that they can tell you what this is and treat it! You should be on the mend soon. Won't it be wonderful when ALL of this stuff ends?

I use the Premarin cream, which I think is like Estrade. I've had no problems with it, and so far, no vaginal problems.

Hugs,
Janie

My diagnosis was similar to yours. Irregular bleeding [post menopausal - on hormone replacement]. The mammogram specialist questioned why I was on HRT for so many years. A locum did my annual check-up and suggested an ultra-sound - they suspected cancer so I had a hysterectomy - and there was cancer in the cervix. I refused radiation because they said there was a 5%-20% chance that it had spread into the lymph. I thought those were pretty good odds. I have just had my first full year of quarterly checks and so far so good! I wish you well!

Cancer?

Wow all these ladies in the same boat as me. I was diagnosed with cervical cancer
last month. That was after bleeding occasionally mainly with intercourse and being told by my GYN my paps were all normal, ultra-sound normal and internal exam normal. i still did not feel it was right. one year later another pap this time it came back with abnormql cells. So a biopsy was scheduled and that came back abnormal as well, however told it was just pre-cancerous cells that needed to be scraped. That procedure was done and two weeks later at my post op I was told it was cancer. Off to Stanford Cancer Clinic where they told me I must of had this for awhile and it was just missed in all the paps! The tumor board suggested a radical hysterectomy done on May 25th and I am now reccovering. It had been painfull and slow, but I am so happy to be
alive! How is your recovery?
Cheers.

Casabella....mine too must have either been there a while or really developed fast. Everyone was surprised at its size.

But it's gone now (yipee!), and recovery from my rad. hyst. has been easier than I ever dreamed possible. I was prepared for everything (how could you not be, after spending even a little time here?!), but I came through with flying colors. I was back to work in three weeks, and feeling great all throughout my recovery.

Dbraver
What stage was your cancer? When they did your hysterectomy, were your lymph nodes sampled? Why didn't the doctor know if it had spread to the lymph glands? If there was some chance that your cancer had spread, why did you refuse radiation and chemo?

Passing a year is good news indeed! Your chance of recurrence has gone way down! Congratulations!
