Hives with Migraine?

this just must be my week to have weird things happen to me and ask weird questions.....last night I got the worst migraine....could barely see and was walking home from the bus trying not to throw up on the sidewalk.....got home and lied down and suddenly got very itchy......got up and looked in the mirror I had broken out in hives on my chest and feet of all things.....hadn't eaten anything or taken any new drugs.....has anyone ever gotten hives with a migraine?

I have to assume the migraine is from my bcp....that's what was causing it before, or my BP......or both? So I didn't take it last night and the headache was gone this morning as were the hives but I'm still slightly "out of it"........

Hives with Migraine?

That happened to me - only once, but it was very upsetting.

A while back I developed an allergy to dark chocolate - I guess that would be the right word.... out of the blue, I started getting migraines when I ate chocolate. (the darker it was, the faster and stronger the headache would be).

Anyway, before I figured out that chocolate what the trigger for these headaches, I had a lovely birthday celebration which included a gorgeous chocolate dessert... and when my headache hit, and I went to get some meds in the bathroom, I was SHOCKED to find my chest, arms, neck and face covered in huge red blotches.

So... it could be that you have developed a reaction to something that didn't bother you before. I would suggest writing down everything you ate before you got the hives - to have a record of it... (I would also suggest having a chat with your dr!).

and I have always felt "out of it" the day after a migraine....
I hope you are feeling better now.

good luck.

Hives with Migraine?

thanks Cheryl..well at least I know I"m not alone

I hadn't eaten anything except an egg sandwhich on organic bread for lunch (I have an allergy to sulphites so I have to be super careful) and felt fine all afternoon until about 3:00 when the migraine started to kick in and I didn't have anything at all after that........

and yes its on the list to ask the doc about for sure, I used to get hives quite alot when I was little but not since......

Oh (((Gidge)))! You poor thing. When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? I'm with the other gals who said to bring this to your doc's attention. Maybe the migraine and hives were connected, maybe not. Maybe it was coincidental.

I have a strong history of hypertension and and even stronger one of migraines (hormones play a big factor). I take a beta-blocker for the bp which also helps prevent migraines. It has been a blessing!

I hope you get everything straightened out soon!!

Hives with Migraine?

thanks ! Do you know if beta blockers have sulpha in them? My gp says that's one reason we haven't treated my bp yet is because of my severe sulpha allergy.....?

Hmmmm!! Now that is a good question. I am allergic to sulfa drugs (antiboitics) so, I would say that they don't. I simply can't understand why they haven't treated your bp. It is so dangerous to leave it untreated.

well good to know there is something out there that someone with a sulpha allergy can take for high bp at least....hopefully someone will come along that knows what these things have in them and then we'll both know!

thanks for all the help

Hives with Migraine?

Hello
My mother had hb for years then started seeing a naturopathic doctor, she has good bp now ..maybe that might be an option.
BTW I am allergic to eggs so that also may be the cause of your hives and head ache. my egg allergy is so bad I could not get some vaccinations because they are made with egg.

Hives with Migraine?

((((((Gidge))))))

I just had to pop in here to say that for the past couple of days...I have broken out in hives on my whole upper abdomen (not on the face). I also have a strange thing going on on my legs. It almost looks like broken capillaries. I've been taking some antihistamines with a bit of a relief.

I have had several migraines this past weekend, and thought of you and your post.

When I went to see the pharmacist she said that it didn't look like a heat rash and that I should keep my eye on it.

Let me know if you find anything out, and I will do the same...S

Hives with Migraine?

Hi girls, well I saw the GP on the weekend and he was very flabbergasted about the hives with the migraine but said if anyone was going to have it would be me

he finally prescribed something for my high BP a beta blocker even though we had tried those in the past with a reaction he tried me on a different one ...Nalodol or something like that....well turns out if you have asthma it's not recommended......spent Sat night in bed from 6:00pm to 7:00am Sun....just couldn't breath and was really out of it......we're now goin to try something called an Ace Inhibitor or something like that....find out more today I guess....

good thing I'm not trying to have a social life in between these migraines and allergic reactions I tell ya
