ask lots of questions. how large is your uterus? usually i the doctor will assign a sizxe to how enlarged it is.... a ten (etc) week pregnancy. or a five month pregnancy.... before considering surgery i would evaluate how uncomfortable your condition is making you. do you bleed for weeks/months on end? have floods that have you running to the bathroom every half hour for a tampon change? do you have cramps that side line you for days? make you miss work or other functions? if you have a choice and there arent any really big symptoms i would never choose a hyst. i dont know why they would put you on bc pills when estrogen promotes (they think) growth of fibroids. read everything here on the boards and choose carefully. i think that sometimes we want to just "make" it thru the surgery. read the hormone jungle and accounts of people who are a year out from their surgery to get an overall idea of what it is to LIVE with a hyst. also you get in to the choices of keeping the ovaries, the cervix, wether to have vaginal or abdominal surgery. all huge and life changing decisions. i wish you the best in this difficult time but know that we are all here for you and will answer any questions we can. good luck!

Is excessive bleeding and subsequent anemia one of your symptoms? I lived with anemia for 4 years and wish I had done something sooner. The anemia is insiduously debilitating. If anemia is a problem, talk to your doctor about iron pills. For me the only thing that worked (before surgery) was prescription iron pills, not the over-the-counter stuff.

I was switched around on several different kinds of bc pills. Finally after almost non stop bleeding for 6 months I opted for surgery. Of course, this is a decision that has to be made by each person individually.

Be careful with the pill. I was given them last year for what we thought was just Endo, now it looks like that plus Adenomyosis. The pill is not good for that and can make it worse. You should ask your DR and see if Adenomyosis is a possibility with you. My Uterus is in-larged to about a 10 week fetus. I have heavy bleeding and clotting, and severe pain with my periods. After my Lap. last month the results were not good. The Endo was every where and my Uterus was very large and boggy, it actually has big indents in it. Good luck, I am having my surgery on the 30th. Now I am just trying to decide if I should keep the ovaries.

thank you for your reply. i was diagnosed with adeno. my doctor
did not tell me the size of the uterus just that it is very big.
i am not sure how thw pill will help me because i have pain
all the time not just during my cycle. my questionis can the
uterus get bigger while i am on the pill. will i still need surgery
eventually. i am wondering if i am prolonging the inevitable.

I was told the the pill makes the Adeno worse, and that it does not help with it . My periods and pain got worse. I have been dealing with this for two years now, having my Hyst. on the 30th is only option left for me. My tubes are tied so really I am OK with it all. The only thing that I am trying to decide on is the ovaries. Should I keep them for now, even though the endo on them was pretty bad before this last laser session. My Dr. has said that they will most likely need to come out eventually. Good luck to you.
