Any Cop Hyster Sisters out there?

I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and have to return in 8 wks after surgery. I'm a Police Officer that has to wear that awful heavy gun belt. Was wondering if anyone else has gone through this discomfort.

No, but I think it is fantastic that you are a police officer!

What a great question for your DR!

How heavy is the belt? My doc said no lifting in excess of 20 lbs until *at least* 8 weeks post-op. Your situation is different in that you'd be carrying that weight directly over the surgical area. I agree that it's probably a great question for the

Please let us know what you find out...I'm curious. Thanks

Thanks for the responses. My DR said I should be ready to go back to work in 6 to 8 weeks. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced it, I love my DR and have oodles of respect for him but he's never worn that thing before.

Wow that would be a concern. I don't have to be a cop to know that I don't like anything tight around my waist and I don't even have much swelling. It just feels weird. I can't imagine carrying a gun belt and all the accessories. I hope you are able to go back to work and be comfortable. The uniforms and vest that they wear here are so hot though, that's what would get me. When it's 96 degrees or more and humid, which is almost typical, it's tough!

I'm and ex-police officer. Do they have light duty where you are? I wouldn't worry about the weight of the belt as much as your full duty obligations. Are you in patrol or do you have a position that you don't have to deal with the routine patrol duties?

Just think about getting in and out of the car and that ever so lovely foot pursuit. Make sure your ready to get back full duty.

Good luck to you.

Shoulder holsters aren't a possibility? That's how I carried my Charter Arms .38, when I didn't have little ones yet. Much more comfortable than a gun belt could be, even without any incisions.

(My 6 year old is still so impulsive I cannot even consider having a gun in the house again yet.)
