Any ladies out there who had a LSH w/BSO

I had a LSH and BSO on 5/21/04. Had an awful first week of left sided pain at the incision site and my left lower back......thought I was dying, but feel wonderful now. Still have a small bulge at my left incision site, but DR told me its fine (it's the muscle)and I have not had any further pain there. Haven't had any spotting or brown discharge that I have heard others speak of. Did have this gross white clumpy discharge for a day which cleared up with Diflucan he gave me. Thought I had a UTI as it burned when I peed, but results were negative. BM's are back to normal. First had diarrhea with awful gas for days, then had awful pain with every normal BM, which subsided immediately after it passed, now just normal with no pain. I feel great now and cannot believe it.

Anyone else taking HRT? I am on the Vivelle Dot Patch 0.1mg and haven't had any hot flashes/sweats.

I have been craving certain foods, especially hot fudge sundaes daily. Have been eating chili/cheese dogs smothered in onions and tacos like crazy. Cheesecake has been another craving. I'll get these cravings and just have to have it no matter what time of the day it is.

Just wondering how the rest of you are doing and your experiences with recovery.

Kath

Hi Kath,

It sounds like your recovery is going well - I found that once I got over the initial post-surgical adjustments I felt much better - getting the bowels to feel normal again sure makes a difference in how you feel!

I kept my ovaries so I did not have the hormone adjustments and cravings.

There have been some other recent LSH ladies posting so maybe some of them will reply soon.

Keep in mind that even when the initial recovery period is over your body may still need many months to be completely healed.

Take care.

Hi Kath,
Glad things are going well for you.

I had an LSH/BSO and am on Premarin .625 and feel great as far as the hormone thing goes; however I did have a rougher recovery than many LSH sisters.

At 8 weeks post-op I'm just now recovering my strength and getting the old bowels and bladder shaped up.

I suffered nausea for many weeks and can't relate to the food cravings. And two days ago I made the mistake of eating beans. I shall not soon repeat it.

Best wishes, hope the rest of your recovery goes as well.

Any ladies out there who had a LSH w/BSO

Hello ladies,
I had a LSH/BSO on June 2, 2004. Endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroids. I have to say that I have had a fairly easy time since, followed all of the doctor's orders and advice provided on this website. My biggest challenge seems to be wanting to get back to the usual stuff too soon, i.e., housework, shopping, walking, etc. I have been reading a lot of the Sisters' comments and have this website to thank for keeping me sane and safe. The best thing I did immediately after the surgery was to take the stool softener I was instructed to take. That kept me out of a lot of trouble and a lot of pain. Also, I opted to not take HRT immediately as I am 51 and have been having hot flashes for three years as I am/was going into menopause anyway. I don't seem to feel any different so far. There have been some hot flashes, but as I said that is nothing new for me. My doctor gave me a prescription for Estradiol should I decide I need to take it. Also, I use a progesterone cream daily and it seems to help. One thing I found on this website that helped me tremendously was an article describing how soon symptoms start after BSO. It said that estrogen is stored in fat tissue (I have a hefty supply) so it could be 3-4 months before it runs out. Anyway, best of luck to you each one of you. I am so grateful for this website.
