Just wondering how soon everyone started using the vacuum cleaner. My Mom and DH seem to think thats something I should not be doing, but feeling guilty that my DD has to do it.

My doctor told me 8 weeks. She gave me the okay for sex at 4 weeks but said no vacuuming until 8 weeks. Don't feel guilty. If you do things too early, you'll set your recovery back.

I was told not to vaccumm until after I went for my 6 week check. And you know I think if your DD is old enough to do it..well why not? She has to learn how to take care of a house sometime, right? My 9 year old loves to vaccuum and asked if she can do it more often!! I told her she can do it alll she wants

This is the perfect opportunity to allow your daughter to be involved in the housework. This task is not too great or difficult for a child to do.

Take as long as you can to rest and avoid do the vacuuming. Even when you are fully fit, only do it now and again. Remember you do not make all the mess in the house. Others help to create this mess too more than often more than you, so it is only fair they help in the cleaning up process.

We women have got to learn to delegate some of the cleaning. Imagine if your child or your husband had the same operation, you as a mother would not dream of letting them do this sort of work too soon, so why do we feel we have to.

Most times when we are ill, we carry on regardless. The type of operation we have is major and this time we should pamper ourselves, not feel guilty and ensure we become fit and well again when our bodies tell us not our minds and heart.

Remember also the house will not collapse if it is not spotless.

One thing about my hysterectomy, it made me reassess how I looked at what I did for my family and what they did for me. It also put things into perspective about whether I needed to be superwoman in keeping the house running smoothly, working and bringing up children as well as massaging my husband sometimes bruise ego.

I now spend time on me, not much but at least I set it aside now and then.

You mean we're supposed to vacuum after a hystrectomy? I though I was banned from vacuuming for life!

Seriously, I began vacuuming again at about 10 week post-op. I was cleared for all other activities at 6 weeks post-op. Vacuuming is one activity that can put great strain on the abdomen - don't resume doing it too quickly.

My doctor told me I could use the cleaner at my 2 week post op. I do it very carefully and have done so 3 times. I am very careful to not use any stomach muscles.

My doctor released me to do normal housework when I was 2 days short of being 5 weeks. sounds kind of silly to me, because my abdomen is still very sore at times. It is always somewhat sore and worse when I do too much.He told me I still need time to heal and to back off when I get sore.Just use common sense I guess. I have used the vaccum several times, but end up sore. I think I'll give it up for a while.
Take it easy!
