question

Sorry i havent posted for a while. I had a hysterectomy Jan 2003 and overall things that way have been ok.

My guestion is this On Jun 3 i had surgery for a hernia (inguinal), for something that was minor turned the opposite there was some complications they had to repair also around my hyst, incision as well as repair the hernia, the incision is 7 inches yuck, it was suppose to be day surgery turned out to be overnight as i could not walk i had no feeling in my right leg, after 12 hours i got the feeling back and was able to go home. I feel this surgery was more painful then the hyst. lots of bruising all over. The day before surgery i came down with a bad cold, they still did the surgery, but all last week i was so sick and was put on antibiotic for i had a chest cold???? Lots lots lots of coughing very painful, will the coughing hurt the repair, has anyone had this problem before. I went to the surgeon on friday and he says to be careful when coughing but never said anything else, other then to hold near the icision when i cough. He didn't want me back to work for 6 weeks, but its one week now and iam back to work, i think its abig mistake but i need the money. Pain wise, its mostly when i cough and down my right leg. Has anyone had a hernia repair?

((((Sweetie))))) I'm really sorry that what was supposed to be a minor surgery turned into a major surgery with complications

Where your cold is concerned, I would do as the surgeon recommend and hold a pillow close to the incision whenever you cough, in order to protect your stitches. It is also usefull to do this when you're straining to change positions.

((((Sweetie)))) I really would re-think your decision to go back to work so soon after your surgery: as you've most likely heard when you were recovering from the hyst, you only have once chance to heal: this is it!!! You won't be much ahead, healthwise and financially, if you end up back in the castle

Sending lots of s your way. Please, do take care of yourself.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing all this. I had my inguinal hernia repaired on April 21 and am just feeling fairly normal, although still being careful (lifting, etc.) as I don't want to have to go through it again. I would definately follow your DRs orders, just so that you don't have to have the surgery redone. That would cost even more, in money, time and pain. Your body needs time to heal. I had mine done by lap method and still have been cautious. I think one week is really early to return to work, if you had complications, but that's just my opinion. Only you know how you feel. Best of luck in your full recovery. Trish
