Question

I have a questions for those sisters who had a hysterectomy due to dysplasia. How often did your doctor say you'd need to undergo papsmears post op.?

Question

Hi Tamalou, I don't have the answer to your question, but I am sure others will be along who can help you. Here is a link to a recent thread about dysplasia https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/sho...ight=dysplasia

Question

Most women go every 3 months for the first 2 years, then every 6 months until 5 years postop. There are some variations, but that does seem to be most typical. Also, many docs are now using the ThinPrep instead of the traditional PAP. Same procedure (scraping of the cervix/vaginal cuff), but the cells are then placed in a vial of fluid instead of fixed on a slide. It has a lower false-negative rate than the traditional PAP. So, if your doc isn't using it yet, you might like to inquire about it.

Good luck!

Question

Thanks for the replies. The thread on dysplasia was very informative. I don't know how I missed this thread earlier. Although my doctor wants to me to wait one year before having another pap, I am going to insist that we do one every three months - especially for the first year or two.
