Recovery Time

Just wanted to know how much time is needed recover enough to be able to drive and return to work. My supervisor today commented "Do you mean you aren't coming in at all?" I didn't plan to during my recovery time. I am planning to have a TAH leaving ovaries/ pre op scheduled for July 13.

Any input on when others returned to work would be appreciated.

Recovery Time

Typically after a TAH the recovery time is 6-8 weeks. This is up to your DR, and when s/he releases you to return to work. Quite often the DR will give you a note for your employer stating the dates you expect to be out of work. Also, a lot of employers (larger companies especially) have to have a release from the DR stating you are cleared to return to work before they will let you come back, which helps to protect them from liability if you suffer some complication after returning.

ps: please update your profile and add your surgery date so you will be on the calendar and we can be sure to send you special good wishes as your date approaches. It also makes it easier to reply to posts by being able to see if you’re pre or post op, and by how much. Thanks!

Recovery Time

I was allowed to drive around 3 weeks, but didn't really do much driving then , still sore, and not myself.

I went back to work at 6 weeks(sit down job), but felt better at 8 weeks. This surgery is major and takes a lot out of you. The dr will let you know when you are ready to go back when you go for your post op. If you plan to go back to work before 6 weeks and then it turns out you don't feel good, then it is hard to go back home to recover.
Please allow yourself the time to recover properly so not to chance complications down the road.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.

Thanks for your response. I don't have a scheduled date yet - I will be scheduled at my pre-op. The dr. was waiting for my blood count to come back up to normal, which it has done.

I work for a church - and am the only secretary. I plan to have all my bulletins done ahead of time - I hope it all works out.

Thanks again.
