sarcoma

hi
I'm new here but not new to 'female problems'. I've had heavy bleeding for years, fibroids for at least a few years, am perimenop
ause (50) and feel like I've got a bowling ball in my belly.

right now, i've got a hyster. sched.for june 28 w/ gyn/onc unless they have to change the date to accommmadate another surgeon to take a mass out of my stomach wall that they just confirmed w/ an endo/ultr/biop on wed. I've been asking for hyster since at least march.

i've got alot of other symptoms- bloating, back pain, wt. loss, etc . so have been bouncing back and forth betw/ docs.
had an ultrasound in dec. and then abd. ct scan in april which caused the gynos to do colposcopy, endo. biopsy, d & c and cone biopsy.tests for cervical ca cause it's 3 times bigger than it was in dec. but just found enlarged uturus, cervicitis, mild dysplasia and fibroid tumors. the gastros have done 3 scopes and ct scans. on and on, dx gastritis, IBS + a hyperplasia tumor on my liver and a smooth muscle tumor on my stomach. actually i don't think they're really going know anything untill after the surgery.

i had emergency surgery in 1975 for an ovarian cyst that ruptured. so i know it's going to hurt more than i can imagine if it's like last time. hopefully they've improved pain management since then when they made me wait for 3 or 4oo hours for meds.

finally, my question is, does having this leiomyoma in my stomach wall make it any more likely that the fibroids are sarcoma or vice versa? i also have lipomas on my back and subcutaneus nodules elswhere, i have connective tissue disease, kinda like lupus. should i get cancerhead about all these other lumps too?

Has anybody had stomach surgery at the same time as hyster.? or even another major surgery?
the gyn said i should do both at the same time and the gastro said not.
i've done alot of searches and haven't found the answer. except you should go to a sarcoma specialist. i prob. won't get path report until next tues , the day after my pretest for surgery. and chances are it might not show up. i'm on 4 vicodin a day and really don't want to wait any longer or i might lose my mind. i can't believe how long it's taken me to not have anything done. hope this post makes sense.
this site is wonderful . thanks for any help,

herbfarmlady

Hi Herbfarmlady. I am so sorry to hear about your pain. As you probably already know is the only way to know if it is a sarcoma is to send the sample off to a pathologist . The waiting is the worst I know. I wish I could be more help. The pain medicines are much better now. I didn't have hardly any. When your pathologist report comes back and if it is a sarcoma you really need to see a sarcoma specialist. I just got my results back and I have PEcoma . A rare cancer. There are only 13 cases documentd and I am number 14! Oh boy! Take Care and I will be praying for you.

Hi,
I don't actually have an answer to your question but I am in somewhat of the same boat. I have a smooth muscle tumor in my uterus. It is described as necrotic with uneven margins. It is very small, 2.4cm at this time. Doctors thought it was a degenerative tumor from a previous pregnancy so they just watched it. My last ultrasound showed it grew from 2.0 to the 2.4 in three months. Radiologist says this shows agressive behavior. Anyway I am going to see my oncologist on June 28th. I will probably have a complete hyst. on June 30th or July 1st. They are looking at the possiblility of it being Leiomyosarcoma. I too have researched and found that the suggestions lead to a sarcoma specialist. I know there is no way of really knowing what it is until the surgery. I hope all goes well for you. I will be thinking of you on 6/28/04. I hope you get some answers.
