what to bring with me?

Hi, New here, I will be having a TAH July 23rd, I'm scared, why do they make you wait so long? I have alot going on in my head. Not really sure how I feel. Just want it over with so I can be normal again.I'm not even sure what normal feels like, been having heavy painful periods so long I thought that was normal. But latley it has really been affecting every aspect of my life. It's good to know so many of you are doing so well with recovery,. I'm not really sure what I will need to bring with me to the Hospital, and what will I really need when I get home. any suggestions? Thanks for all your help and support

what to bring with me?

Hi Pokey

If you go to the drop down list at the top of this page and click on pre-op hints you will find alot of great suggestions on what to bring to the castle and lots of other good info too.

I know what you mean about getting this over with so I can get back to feeling normal...it has been so long I think I forgot what normal feels like

Good Luck,

Sue

what to bring with me?

Hi Pokey

As far as what to take to the hospital....I found I didn't really need much ....the hospital provides most of the basic stuff...ie. toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. All I took along was a nice pair of jammies, which I did appreciate being able to wear, and also my contact lense solution and case, and my glasses.

At home, I had everything that I needed set up in the bedroom....water jug, pain meds, lotion, phone, lots of pillows on the bed, and of course the clicker for the TV.

I know the build up to surgery is so nerve-wracking. There is too much time to think about it all. Make sure you check out the pre-op and post-op articles while you are waiting --- they do help in preparing for your journey through HysterLand.

what to bring with me?

Thanks for the info but whats a tummy pillow?
It's so nice to know you all understand what I'm feeling, every time I bring up the subject to my boyfriend he"s like you"ll be fine and changes the subject. He's really a great guy but just has no clue about all the emotions you go through, the ups and downs and how right now all I can think of is this and I really don"t care about the little nonsence that normally consumes me in a normal day.
Thanks again ~Angela

what to bring with me?

ok, I must be way more anal than my other sisters...here's what I took to the hospital and I was glad to have it:
Pillows from home (ahhhhhhh), lotion, lip balm, moisturizer, breath mints, two sets of jammies (I was there 4 days for TAH BSO) undies, socks, slippers, book, magazines, and all the usual toiletries. lol, told ya I was anal!!!
I took pajamas (with pants) so I felt more comfortable hiking up and down the halls.
I've only just learned about the raised toilet seat and grabber for post-op and really really wish I'd had them!
Good luck, hope everything goes well

what to bring with me?

Hi,

I took:

face wipes - the type that clean, tone & moisturise in one. Heaven.

Lip balm.

mini radio with earphones - so glad I did when insomnia set in, or to block out yukky sounds of people being sick!

toothbrush & paste

breath mints

hard candy

Lotion that smells nice - the castle smelled horrible.

Loose cotton pyjamas

Glasses

a book I'd already started, good but easy reading.

magazines - we all shared them.

Sanitary pads - took way too many but you never know.

Nice smelling shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.

I wish I'd taken:

knickers one size bigger than normal (you swell up)

Less sanitary pads!

Good luck!
