Can I Keep My Ovaries? What Happens If I Don't?

Anyone out there who had early unterine cancer that kept ovaries? Are they always taken because of the cancer?? I Would appreciate hearing from anyone regarding what to expect for my body after this surgery for this type of cancer.
Thanks so much, this sight is a Godsend.

Swedish, I believe that if a hyst is necessari for uterine cancer the ovaries. along with some lymph nodes are usually removed. Then depending on the pathology chemo or radiation may be given, but often the surgery gets rid of all the cancer and no furthur treatmetn is needed. Just make sure you are being treated by a gyn/onc, because they are specially trained to give you the best outcome. I had a different cancer and I am sure oters with uterine cancer will be aong to share there experiences. Here is a link to the American Cancer Societ info on uterine cancer.

Can I Keep My Ovaries? What Happens If I Don't?

I had endometrial cancer 1B 2, and I was told the usual/typical treatment was to have everything removed, BUT I was 52 years old and had my tubes tied when I was 39 - no desire to become a mother at that age. I don't know what the options are for those who are younger and still want to try to have children. I seem to recall other endometrial/uterine cancer people who have kept their ovaries ...

take them out

If I read your profile correctly, we are both of similar ages. I had endoca, 1a, grade 1. About the best you can get...) Anyway, for me, I had already been going through the hot flashes, etc for a number of years and the surgery did not throw me into instant menopause. Have you had a hormone check? I still say that the regrets afterwards would be greater finding out you need an additional surgery to get them out, than losing them in one fell swoop. If you have had any endo problems, keeping them will do nothing to improve that. If you were very young.. maybe. I'd say take it all!! Keep us posted.. good luck.

P.S. The only side effect that I've been aware of is the hot flashes and night sweats that I developed as a result. Other than that, no problems with anything else!
