Hormone question

I had a TAH/BSO 3 weeks ago. I am not on any HRT because the pre-op blood tests confirmed that I had already gone through menopause (early due to ovarian failure). So we didnt think I would need hormones. Well, 3 weeks later, Im having night sweats, hot flashes, having to pee alot, heart palpatations.....everything that I went th rough 7 years ago.

Guess I was making some hormones after all...and now without my ovaries - im on my own.

Here's my question - and Ill ask my doc next week as well.

I want to avoid HRT as there is cancer in my family. I've heard alot about progesterone, but what is natural progesterone, and is it appropriate to use if you dont have a uterus or ovaries - is it effective to use if you dont have any estrogen in your system, or do you need both estrogen and progesterone to relieve menopause symptoms?

Im totally clueless - there is so much adverstisements for this and that, that I dont know what to try.

I am 2.5 weeks post op and am getting ready to start NHRT. My Prince Charming has been wonderful in educating me about the Hormone Jungle.

There is a book called Natural Hormone Replacement by Jonathan V Wright that really explains everything. There are also a lot of great articles on the resource link on this site.

It is all very overwhelming and scary. I have opted to go NHRT due to severe endo and family history of cancer. I am working with a compounding pharmacist to ensure that all of the doses are correct for my body. I am going to be on Tri-EST (which contains all 3 estrogens) Progesterone and Testosterone. I am going to start the hormones next week.

Before your Doctors appointment, I would read as much as you can and make your list of questions.

Hang in there sister.
