First Full blown hot flash!!

Ok, I took my trip to the castle 04/04/2004. Doc put me on estrogen right away. First he gave me a shot in recovery, then gave me a script for pills, took those till 2 week check-up, then at my request I switched to the 1 wk patch, those were irritating my skin so, last week I started on the 2x's a week dot, which I must say, I like a lot better.

Anyway, since my surgery, I have a what I call temp increases. I get real warm, then cold, but nothing major. No bursts of sweat or anything.

Then.......Wednesday I have a training class at work, There is about 25 people in an air conditioned room. And low and behold I start getting warm and then start sweating like I was in the middle of Africa or something. Then it was gone. No, it couldn't have happened at home, or in my own office, I had to be around a room FULL of people. One of my co-workers even leaned over and said, "Are you ok?", I said yeah, just a hot flash I guess. It left as fast as it came. I'd say it lasted about 3 minutes. Then I was cool and comfy again. I hope this is the worst they get.

I am only 33, had EVERYTHING removed. Since I am on the estrogen is this maybe the worst they will get? Anyone else on meds that still have them?

First Full blown hot flash!!

Hi Annie

I'm sure there are lots of women using HRT who still get hot flashes. I know I do! Sometimes its a matter of giving the HRT time to work, other times it's a sign that the dose needs a little tweaking.

You've made quite a few HRT changes in a short period of time! I'm glad you found one you feel you can stick with. Keep a journal of those hot flashes and any other symptoms you might notice. Over a period of time you'll have a good indicator if your symptoms are lessening or getting worse, and that can help your doctor make dose changes, if necessary.

First Full blown hot flash!!

Annie,
It's not unusual to have hot flashes for the first few months, even on hrt. Your body is going thru many changes and hot flashes can be a sign of a fluctuation in your levels.

I did find that I was a much warmer person for many many months post op. It also didn't take much to set off a hot flash. I started to set my watch by them. Example, I knew as soon as I had my morning cup of java, a hot flash was soon to follow. Eat a bowl of soup, hot flash time. Drink a glass of wine; hot flash time.

The good news is that things did eventually level out for me and I can now enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine without sweating profusely.

Give yourself some time. It may also be helpful to start keeping a journal of your symptoms. The journal really helped me to see when things were starting to get better.
