Do Fluid filled cysts turn into to cancer

Ok, my mom had ovarian cancer, now at 52 I'm developing 5x6cm ovarian cysts. They are symptomless, the Dr does NOT seem to think they are cancer and wants to go in to drain cysts or remove ovaries laproscopically.

Did anyone have cyst drained and then have more cysts.

I really don't want to die of cancer nor have my ovaries removed unecessarily.

Also she does not recommend a gyn/onc because the surgery will be too invasive.

I'm so confused.

Do Fluid filled cysts turn into to cancer

Hi I really think that fluid filled cyst are very rarley cancerous. Now if its a complex cyst that is more suspiscious. But still can be benign... They probably wont know until they take it out and biopsy it. If they drain it they test the fluid.. I know that for breast cyst they do that.. I have alot of them. I hope this helps do some research on the net .
Good Luck and dont worry to much.. I know you probably heard that already . Have a Great 4th

s Vicky

You say they are fluid filled cysts. Do you know this because you had an ultrasound done? If not, you need one. If you did, fluid filled cysts usually just require monitering every few months.

A visit with a gyn oncologist might be a sound idea at this point in time. Your mother had ovarian cancer and now you are developing problems with your own ovaries.
I do not understand why your gyn says that surgery with a gyn onc would be too invasive. It would only be invasive if ovarian cancer is found. And in that case, only a gyn oncologist is qualified to perform the surgery.

Best wishes.

Do Fluid filled cysts turn into to cancer

Hi Vickie,
It is my understanding that fliud filled cysts are usually not cancer. Has your Dr ordered a CA 125 blood tests that can sometimes indicate ovarian cancer if elevated, but can also be elevated for other reasons. Whenever cancer is suspected you should be treated by a gyn/onc. A gyn/onc surgeon would not do anything more invasive than what is needed to give the best possible outcome.
