First Post-LEEP pap

I wanted to thank everyone on this board for the last few months. Although I've usually been a lurker and not a poster, I appreciated the stories of all of the brave women for the last four months while I've been going through my own little cervical nightmare. I was diagnosed with CIS (CIN III) in February, 11 months after a completely normal pap (and a history of normal paps). My doctor assumed I had (have) HPV, but the HPV had been dormant since I'd been completely monogamous for over eight years.

I had a LEEP cone a few weeks after diagnosis. The margins were clear (which was a huge relief) but I was still scared to death of that first post-LEEP pap. I'm 32, have never had children and was trying to avoid a hysterecomtomy. Well, great news, the first pap came back completely normal. I also had them do a HPV test because I've read that a pap and a HPV test is as reliable as a colposcopy. Well, the HPV test was negative. So for the time being, it appears that I have this thing licked. I think this will now give me the time to have a family (although I'm waiting until I have at least two normal paps).

I'm not sure if it was only the LEEP, the fact that I'm now off hormonal birth control and using condoms everytime I have sex, the multivitamin + folic acid + indol 3-carbinol, the loss of fast food from my diet, or a combination of the above. But I guess at this point it doesn't matter. I can honestly say that I'm a much healther person than I was 6 months ago. It ***** that it takes an "almost" cancer diagnosis to scare some of us into taking better care of our bodies but I guess I'll go with whatever works. I wish every single one of you out there the same good news that I just received!

And although I hope I never have to come back to this web site, I want all of you to know what a wonderful resource this is.

It is great that you have good slash that great news.

Yes it is a shame that it take a cancer diagnosis to bring us to our senses to live a healthier lifestyle, but it happens.

In a nice way I hope I never have to see you on this board, but at least is nice that we have a way to talk, chat, or help others that are in the same boat so to speak.

God Bless and best wishes on continued clear paps

HOORAY!

Isn't good news wonderful?

Now remember to keep those appointments for close follow-up. Early detection is the best thing (but we'll assume that all your future PAP's will come back normal).

Keep us posted on how things are going for you! Wishing you a lifetime filled with health, happiness, and peace.
