another silly question

I see a lot of people saying to drink lots and lots of water but what if water makes you sick? can we drink something other than water? If I drink more than a glass of water in a day from the tap it just sits in my tummy and upsets it. bottled water is kind of ok but it gets to expensive to keep drinking it cause it has to be flavored with something hehe

Hugs!

Try putting lemon slices in your water, that might help.. Trust me, you dont want to get dehydrated after surgery. I did and ended up back in the hospital, and it hurt really bad... If lemon doesn't work, try limes, even orange slices.. I do all kinds of citrus fruits in my water... If water is out all together, try gatorade or something with electrolites in it... I wish you luck! Diana

Crystal light will work too. If you can drink sweeteners. When I went to Weight Watchers, they counted this as water. Putting lemon in water is also a good idea. You may want to put the tap water in the refrigerator with ice, sometimes that makes it taste better. Good luck. Hydration is very important!!

thanks diana,
I already put a dash of lemon juice and a pinch of sugar in the water but it doesnt help much. now orange slices sound good, I love orange flavored things but orange juice my tummy doesnt like either but maybe it'll be better watered down like that. I should be on previcid or something like that but I cant stand taking pills every day so I try to control it with diet and rolaids hehe

hugs!

If you use decaf tea, and go easy on the sweetener it can also count as water. The biggest point is to stay hydrated. Juices help. Gatorade is great. Crystal light is okiedokie.

But... pop will contribute to gas pain significantly, and the salts in pop actually toss your hydration all helter-skelter. I find now, 11 weeks post op, that a can of pop makes my ankles swell yet leaves me thirsty at the same time.

Right - the caffeine wipes out the water benefits, that's why it needs to be decaf tea. You shouldn't cut caffeine all at once, though. Do it gradual, to avoid the headache problems.

I used to be a 4 mug of coffee plus 3 cans of coke a day person. Now, I'm one mug of coffee a day, and only 2 cans of coke a week. It took me a couple of weeks to taper down to that - and it was no picnic because I was tapering off smoking at the same time... pre-op! So I've been smoke free and half-caffed for 11 weeks now.

If you can handle going off caffine for a week or two, especially while on the pain pills, then you shouldn't get caffine headaches anymore... I used to drink tons of caffine, then one day, I just stopped.. after about two weeks, I felt great! Good luck sweetie! Diana

I can't drink water out of a glass, not even in a restaurant. But if I keep a bottle of water in the refridgerator and take a drink every time I go into the kitchen, I get my minimum water requirement usually by the end of the evening. (I have the cutest water bottle. It looks like the "water cooler" bottles and holds the entire day's water requirement.)

You might want to try that.
