Ovarian Cancer

Hi, All -- My oncologist suspects ovarian cancer and scheduled Hysterectomy Wednesday (7/14/04) as well as "exploratory surgery" since he doesn't really know the source of the cancer.
His suspicions are based on my symptoms, which is bloating, ascites and vaginal bleeding. Does that all make sense?


I need some encouragement since I have no family to turn to.

Welcome to Cancer Concerns. You have found a wonderful place for support, hugs, and advice.
It sounds as though a gyn oncologist will be performing your surgery. They are the experts. Unfortunately with ovarian cancer a diagnosis is never certain until a surgical biopsy is performed.
As you await surgery you should also visit the pre op and post op forums on hystersisters to help prepare you for the actual operation.
Cancer concerns has many women posting who have been diagnosed with many different gyn cancers.
I am an ovarian cancer stage IIIc survivor.

Thanks for your response. You made me feel better.

I don't understand why the sonograms I had did not show ovarian growths. In fact, the technician said the ovaries were very small since I am postmenopausal. The sonograms were done within this year.

Should I mention this to the oncologist?
