Breast Biopsy

Hi Ladies,

I have a question for anyone who has had a breast biopsy done. My stereotactic biopsy was done June 27, 2000. When they did the biopsy they put a little marker of some type at the biopsy site.(Test results were negative.)

I have a follow-up mammography next week. The other day I noticed a lump near the biopsy site. For those who have had biopsy's, do you notice any lumps near the surgery site? I'm getting a little nervous. Guess I'm hoping that the lump is scar tissue and not something bigger. Thanks.

Breast Biopsy

I had a biopsy on November 2nd, but it was an excisional biopsy and not a stereotactic. My doctor also told me to have a mammogram on that side six months later. I don't know if he put any type of marker there. He didn't say anything about it. One question: Are you on HRT and, if so, did the doc tell you to go off of it? I have been taking Premarin since July (my surgery TAH/BSO was 6/2 -- six months ago today) and my breast surgeon told me I didn't have to go off them right now, but possibly later if there were more problems with my breasts.

Breast Biopsy

Hi Linda,

Yes I am on HRT. Right now we are just getting the mammography done. I found the lump after my doctor's appointment last week. (I haven't told her about the lump since we already had a mammography scheduled.) She adjusted my hormones a little at that appointment. I was having extremely sore breasts and asked her to prescribe some sort of progrestrone for me. She gave me Provera for the time being. My breasts have stopped hurting but thats when I discovered the lump.

How bad was the excisional biopsy? Did you have a lot of pain after?

The biopsy wasn't bad. I had "twilight sleep" and don't remember the needle prick when the doctor did the local anesthesia at the site. My breasts have been aching lately, but I think it is scar tissue healing. Have you had anything like that after the stereotactic biopsy?
I need to go for mammograms on the side where the biopsy was done in six months. Then I need to have both done again next fall.

Breast Biopsy

Hi Linda,

Yes my breast where I had the biopsy does ache. As a matter of fact, I will get sharp jabs going through it quite a few times during the day. I go on December 7 for my recheck. I am not looking forward to this at all. I have noticed in the past few weeks a couple of lumps that have shown up. My husband and I are hoping that it is just a reaction to the estrogen I am taking. I didn't noticed the lumps before this because my breasts had been so swollen from the estrogen. I started taking Provera a few weeks ago and that helped with the swelling but then the lumps appeared.

How was your re-check? I have been having aches in my right breast. Why did they give you Provera? My gyn oncologist said they only give progesterone when you have a uterus.
Hope all went well today.

I requested the Provera (am going to change to promentrium) because I was having bad headaches and severe breast aches from water retention. It has seemed to help with the water retention and especially with the headaches. I was getting terrible migraines.

As for the mammography, who knows. I haven't heard anything yet. But at this point in time, no news is good news. I did read on my papers at the hospital that they were checking for left breast mass. Now the waiting begins again. One good thing though, when I am nervous I can't eat and clean everything in sight. (I'll probably get ready for Christmas all in one day!)
