weight gain or loss

I am curious as to what changes in your weight you had after surgery and if you lost weight, what did you do, if anything to lost it? I have a horrible time losing weight but I do maintain no matter what I eat. I am anemic (3 units low of blood due to heavy bleeding) and still cant sit still. I dont think I over eat too much. Any ideas or advice on how to lower weight after surgery, I am getting to hopefully keep one ovary, so no hormones unless he sees a problem once he is in there tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch..

weight gain or loss

hello

I was extremely anemic a week before surgery and had a 3 unit blood transfusion. My count was 5.5-half empty because normal is 12.Actually i was anemic for years, but never went to see a gyn. until the end of April, because I felt like death.
I have lost 22 pounds and 2 sizes since my first appt. I haven't had much of a appetite and have way too much energy. a lot of this is due to anxiety. It has been a very hard adjustment to not feel so worn down. I hardly ever feel tired and cannot just lye down to go to bed. I have been using ambiem for most of my 9 weeks post-op. I haven't even taken a nap since the surgery. I was awake for 30 hours after surgery until the nurse finally gave me a sleeper the second night.
My advice to you is not wait for 7 weeks like I did to get something to help you relax. Ask your dr. for some kind of med so you can relax and heal properly. I found myself doing everything I wasn't supposed to because I couldn't keep still. It took its toll on me emotionally too.
Rest is what you will need. Good luck tomorrow and I am sure everything will go good for you.

Peggy

I had adenomyosis which caused the severe bleeding.I also had a fibroid and a cyst removed off of one of my ovaries. Cervix removed too, but kept both ovaries.

I have cooked dinner every night except a couple, swept floors, vacumed, whent grocerie shopping,Cut down large tree that fell in back yard(with chain saw) All the things we shouldn't do.But I too couldn't sleep, and had too much energy.THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO RECOUVER lol Ask your doc for something to relax and help yo sleep it will make your recouvery sooooo much better.

Nancy you must be more careful at so early post op! Godd grief and I thought I was a nutter for doing stuff. I have lost 5lb so far and wasnt overweight to start with. I had a burst of cleanamania on Friday and couldnt settle. Is this anxiety? However I have down nowt today and feeling very tired indeed. I feel a bit lost not doing anything but the pains I get now tell me to ease off. I was a nutter first two weeks but now the meds have worn off my body and if I do too much I have pain and feel sick. So listen to your body and dont push it, its not worth it.

As Peggy said if you end up with anxiety badly go to your doctor.

I think just eat sensibly and remember to rest. You may feel ok and full of energy but you could be doing your body damage in the long term!

weight gain or loss

The past 4 years, I have been either on a diet and losing or off a diet and gaining. Since my surgery, my appetite has been like a starved horse, and of course I crave all the wrong things! I have gained 5 or 6 pounds since surgery, and I am at 5 weeks post op. I'm going on the South Beach diet tomorrow. A friend of mine, who is very health conscious and has studied nutrition, says it's the best diet she's ever been on. One good thing she says comes of this particular diet is that you lose inches in your tummy first. HEY! That sounds great to me! LOL! I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey babe I am from the big AL to. Maybe I should say LA because I now live in Mobile. Anyway I have lost weight. I had a TAH. When you are in the hospital after having the ana you normally aren't allowed to eat. Not for the first few days. They let you after the 2nd day. But by then it has been 3 days since you ate last and your stomach has shrunk. I still haven't been able to eat big meals. Just don't force it. If you feel like eating then eat a little. Once your stomach has shrunk you can keep it that way by eating small portions. Let me know if I can help and PM me if you want to talk. A fellow Alabamaian is pretty cool!

Not me. I feel FAT as a cow! I haven't really been overeating it's just been so many trauma's in my life over the last 2 years that I gave up. It's not my character to be heavy. So, now I am up 4 sizes and am afraid with all this sitting around another size is comming on. Just don't seem to have the "umph" inside to make the weight come off. Anyway. Enough of my whining.

2 weeks post op, down 12 lbs.
The fibroid probably weight 5 lbs itself, doctor said it was like a baby.(I know it sounds unbeleiveble but it's true).
I have more energy than I did before, but not using it, I'm being so careful not to overdoe it, I want to heal fast and good.
I quit smoking the morning of the surgery and doing really well with that!
I don't sleep as well, my stomach hurts more at night in bed, can't sleep on my back too long and it's difficult to lay on my side, I need 2 pillows to steady myself.
I thought I'd need to nap in the afternoon for healing but I cannot. I never had trouble napping before!
