Any helpful ideas on what to expect?

I'm scheduled for a TVH on July 28th, my doctor doing the surgery is not my normal doctor, so I don't know her real well. But she is the specialist my doctor sent me to. She seems to be ok, but I'm a little worried from past experiences that they won't tell me things I might need to know. You know the sillly little things that they seem to forget not everyone knows. Any helpful advice?

Hi bluerose,

to Hyster Sisters!!

While I'm sorry that you are facing surgery, I am glad that you found HS and posted to introduce yourself. I read your other post, where you mentioned that you wear dentures. I do, too, and I know how you feel about not wanting to be seen without them. What I did was ask my DH to keep them with him, along with my adhesive, and he gave them to me as soon as they brought me up to my room from recovery. I don;t even really remember putting them back in, so I must have been pretty groggy still.

You asked for hints - be sure to read the Pre-Op Hints and the Post-Op Hints. They are full of great advice that will help you to prepare for your surgery and recovery.

I hope you'll continue to read and to post any questions that you may have - we'll do our best to help.

Thanks for that idea. I did check out the hints part, but didn't see a whole lot on the vaginal surgery which is supposed to be what I'm having. I'm really wondering how that will be. Some say it's faster and easier healing, but not sure about what all to expect, like bleeding afterwards etc.
STill reading posts, so maybe I'll find something.

Any helpful ideas on what to expect?

Hi.
I had a TVH and was only in the hospital for a little over 24 hours. I didn't have much discharge at all. I was very surprised about that. Didn't have pain where I expected to either. I had really terrible back pain for a couple of weeks. Well I say terrible but I only had to take ibuprofen for it. Also had a bout of insomnia after surgery. Lots of sisters have had both problems so I'm sure you can find many posts on the subject. Overall my physical recovery was fairly speedy. My biggest long term problem has been fatigue. Haven't solved that problem yet.

Take care and take it easy even if ( especially if) you have a quick recovery.

My doctor says expect a 2 day hospital stay, says it will be pain like having children, of course if she knew the problems I had then I'm not sure she would say that lol. But with my second 2 days after having him I was at the laundrymat, so I'm hoping this will be close to that as I can handle that. But, again who knows. I just want the bleeding and cramps to stop. I had my tubes tied in 2000, so at least the fertility part is not an issue for me. Mentally I think I'm ready, just hoping I will be physically and don't have a loooong and painful recovery. And really don't want any surprises of things I should have been told about by the doctor.
