cyst & ovcon 50 not helping question

I have a new OB and he thought it best to put me onto Ovcon 50 for 6 weeks then recheck the cyst that has been on my right ovary since at least Jan 04. I have been taking it for a week and am not seeing any relief. My pain is worse and the mood swings and nausea are horrible. The doc told me that I should be seeing some sign of change within the first couple of days...I called yesterday and was told that if things arent better on Thurs to call them again.

My question is : has anyone been on BCs to try to shrink a cyst and have the cyst get worse? Is it possible for it to get worse? Any experience with it not getting better...Then what happens to me?

My cyst at last US (1 1/2 week ago) is 3 cm and has not changed since January, 7 months ago, it is on the right side and my appendix has been ruled out as the culprit. This is the first time to try BCs and I worry I am wasting my time and putting myself through more than I need to. I mean shouldnt this cyst have resolved on its own with in the last 7months if it was going to resolve at all? Since it has been around all this time arent I just trying a futile thing, or is this protocol before being able to do surgery to get rid of this belly ache?

Thanks alot, Linda

cyst & ovcon 50 not helping question

Linda,

At 9 weeks post TAH/LSO for a large suspicious mass (turned out to be a hemorrhagic cyst) my right ovary was FULL of cysts. I was put on Ortho Tricyclen and it did take a few weeks for the pain to go away. I stayed on them for 6 months and then had to stop due to estrogen overload. (1 1/2 years later) I have never had a repeat US, but assume the cysts are gone.

Did your doc mention if your cyst was fluid filled or had any solid components? I think your best option is to discuss all of this with your doc.

Good luck and I hope everything works out.
