Hey sisters..

I had a question about blood clots.. I had my LAVH on June 25 so it will be 4 weeks on friday.. How long after surgery does it take for the blood clots to form? Is it to late seeing how its been almost a month? For some reason the lower part of my left leg is killing me.. Thanks for any feed back..

blood clot

Hi Mandee,
I have severe pain upon getting out of bed at one week post op- like a shin splint. I also had a bladder infection and ended up in the emergency room. I told the doc about both and he examined my leg and took a chest x-ray. The pain lasted about another week and there is still numbness in the area. I wore those pressure leg things that compressed them the first 24 hours. My regular doctor also examined my leg at one week and he looked for swelling and said all looked okay. If I were you, I'd call my doctor just for peace of mind. As far as a time table goes, I can't answer that. I would think that if you're active and this far post op that clots would not be a factor, but I'm no expert. Good luck.

blood clot

My mom suffers from blood clotting, I know from seeing her deal with it that the symptoms are swollen leg, pain, and the leg will feel very warm. Also, the leg may become really red. If you have these symptoms call your Dr. ASAP! Even if you don't have the above symptoms call your Dr. to help put you mind at rest.

Yes, I agree. CALL YOUR DOC! Please don't fool around with leg pain after surgery!

Take care,

What did the dr. say? After my emergency c-section I had 11 clots form in my legs and they ached and hurt... were a little swollen. I did not get the hot feeling in them they look for.

Update on how you are.

blood clot

Please call your doctor or visit your ER as soon as possible. I had a blood clot (DVT) 3 weeks post op. My *only* symptom was pain in my inner thigh. I had no swelling, tenderness, redness nor was it hot to touch.

Do NOT rub the leg. If there is a clot, you don't want to cause it to travel.

DVT and Hysterectomy 7/10/2004

If you feel pain in your leg - call the doc now! I had one after skin cancer surgery last Nov. It felt like a charlie horse behind my left knee. My foot would get very cold and turn a weird color. I didn't think anything of it and took advil (I had skin cancer surgery on the same leg). My doc didn't even think anything was wrong. Demand testing for a DVT if the pain gets to be like a charlie horse.

After they found it I had 6 weeks of Lovonox shots and 6 months of coumadin. I finished that only to start the shots again when my left ovary was removed and now I'm back on the shots for 6 weeks after my hysterectomy on 7/10.

Email me if you want more info. The DVT ruined my life b/c I had to come off birth control pills that helped stage 4 endo & PCOS. My gyn problems escalated from no pills and now I can't take HRT.

Please get it checked out!

blood clot

Now you guys are scaring me! I'm just over 5 weeks and my right calf has been hurting for a few days. Not real bad, but like a strain from a workout (except there haven't been any of those). My left leg hurt a few days ago, the back of my thigh. Now that was like a bad cramp that was off and on. I figured since it's been bilateral it wouldn't be DVT. Should I be worried?

Thanks,
Mimi

Sorry to scare you

I'm sorry to scare you. I would hate to have something that happened to me happen to you. Are you exercising your legs? Walking around, stretching them as best you can? That's the best way to prevent DVTS (I'm no doc, but I've read a lot). Also check out the DVT link - there are some good suggestions and questions to identify if you may have one.

If you have insurance, give your doc a quick call and see what he/she says. It can't hurt. It may be nothing, but better safe than sorry. If the pain gets worse, then definitely call.

Take care,
Aimee

The pain in my thigh felt more like a pulled muscle. It was my only symptom, so I really think it would be wise to report any pain in the leg to your doctor. Where a blood clot may be concerned, it's better to err on the side of caution.
