Getting ready to call for surgery date and scared to death....

I am about to call gyno for surgery date appt. for hysterectomy. I am sick of feeling sick.My uterus is size of a 4 month old pregnancy, 2 large fibriods, cyst on left ovary, irregular and heavy periods. I am in the middle of my period now and my breasts are killing me, which is unusual, as usually after I start my period, they feel better after a few days but not this time. Today especially, I feel awful, achy, bloated, you name it. I bled so heavily over the weekend and passed a nice size clot yesterday as well(big to me anyway). Can anyone tell me, the things I have mentioned, are these all hormonal symptoms I am experiencing? I also am very moody, tired and feel like a wet rag. Not sure if I should talk to gyno first before making up surgery date or just make the date without talking to her. My gyno knows I need a hysterectomy, she is just waiting for me to call. Can anyone help me please and let me know if what I am experiencing is all normal?

Hi Diane!

I really have no advice or experience to give you as I haven't been diagnosed yet. But I wanted to let you know I feel for you. And give you a big

I've had a rough time physically for months. Most of which probably isn't related to "female stuff". But with that things have changed so much in the last 6-9 months I can't believe it.

They come closer together (24 days now), heavier, clots, longer PMS, huge mood swings, more painful breasts, dry hair, loss of hair, acne like a teenager, painful intercourse and spotting after intercourse.

I go to a gyno Thursday to find out what to do about a 7 mm "something" within my cervix. And I too am scared. But just know that there are lots of us here thinking about you and 'ing for you! Take deep breaths and do only what you are ready for. And from what I've read here, get 2nd, 3rd or 4th opinions.

Diane and Mia

I replyed a long message to you and lost the whole thing, I just have to tell you that I am 55 and have lived the last 30 years in pure HELL because of fear of having a hysterectomy, why anyone would want to have as much blood, bloat, painful breasts and pain is beyond my but I did...I chickened out 16 yrs ago, worst decision I ever did,,,,but now after to ER visits for flooding, I mean buckets of blood all over, the bathroom looked like a murder scene, he would be in there with the 409 after I got home from the hospital mumbling with his 409 scrubbing and saying OJ must have used this product cause it cleaned the blood up very well Anyway after the D&c it was just wowed because no more blood , no period for 7 months, some hot flashes, not big deal then my breasts hurt and all of a sudden a little spotting and them BAMMMMM flood every where back to the hospital, that was it it it.....HYPERPLASIA, benign, thank God Biopsy hurt so bad and I said this is it lets go, so on September 13th, my life will begin all over again and I am positive without a doubt it will be the best dicision I ever made, wish I were going today!!! Good luck with your decision, I hope I helped with telling you it does not get any better no matter how many doctors you see, get it out, ya dont need it to make the qualify of your life HORRIBle...

Getting ready to call for surgery date and scared to death....

I hear you both. My dh and I joke about the "home hysterectomy kit" that I should get each and every month. There's blood everywhere in the bathroom (the rugs, all around the potty...). Geez.

In fact, when my Hyster Sister surprise for becoming a Crown Jewel arrived today (thank you, hostesses!), he actually said, "So are the Sisters sending you that home hysterectomy kit?" Just got over what I hope will be my 2nd to last period ever, so I should be pretty calm for a few days until ovulation time......then the bloating and pre-period pain begins.

I put off this decision, too -- mostly because a) I didn't feel I was worth helping, 2) I thought I was a wimp for saying that this hurt and I thought is was serious, and 3) I didn't want to be told to lose weight. But I finally got fed up and here I am, less than two months away from becoming royalty.

To answer your question, though -- I think you'll find every sort of emotion surrounding hysterectomy on this site. Some women are calm, some are overjoyed, some are ambivalent, some are hurt, some are angry, some grieve, and many are combination types. Nothing is "abnormal", either. It's just the way you are.

Keep reading these posts! It's where you'll find wisdom.
