Estrogen too high or too low?

Hi all,

Got a total hysterectomy last November. They had me on an estorgen patch when I awoke from surgery. Long story short, I've been "adjusted" twice since then. This past week I've had a headache that won't quit, nausea, and upset stomach. Waking up occasionally with night sweats. Not in the mood for love. I called the doc yesterday, and after talking to the nurse, who talked to the doc, and then called me back, she said the doc wants to lower my estrogen and add progesterone to the mix. I was thinking I would be getting my estrogen highered. I have a call in to talk to the doc directly, but was hoping someone here would be able to tell me if these are symptoms of too high or symptoms of too low estrogen? She said the headache was from too much. . . Thanks. -kathy

Estrogen too high or too low?

Hi Kathy

Here's a list of the symptoms of too much/too little of estrogen and progesterone. Some of the symptoms overlap so it can be confusing. Adding progesterone seems like a good move. For some of us it really helps balance out the estrogen and makes us feel "right". I hope it works well for you!

Estrogen too high or too low?

Hi... Thanks for that list! You are right, symptoms can be confusing! But do I really need progesterone with a total hysterectomy? What will it do for me? Aren't there side affects of taking it? Thanks again! -kathy

Estrogen too high or too low?

Hi again!

There are lots of us without a uterus who take progesterone and do well with it. My understanding is that there are many receptors for progesterone in the body. Here are some good articles you can read which will help explain the role of progesterone and how it can help with our well-being: Progesterone Benefits, Progesterone: Do I need it? and Why Progesterone?.

You can find more articles by using the drop down menu located near the top/right of the page called More Hyster Sisters! Scroll down to look for Hormone Article List.
