Hospital stay length

What is the usual length of hospital stay? I think the dr is going to try and do a TVH and insurance approved just one day. I am also having a bladder sling put in. Will that make my stay longer? Is it really possible to go home the next day? I am not good at nursing techniques and with no little ones at home, I would rather stay till I am comfortable with my new status. Did anyone have to go home with a catheter and take care of it yourself?

I had a TVH and only stayed one night. Surgery was at 9:45am and I left the hospital the next day about 4:45pm. I was more than ready to go home. But that's me.

I didn't have any bladder work done or a catheter so I can't answer those questions for you. Sorry!

I do hope and pray that everything goes well for you! I will be thinking about you!

When I went in for a TVH my insurance was precertified for one day also. The doctors office told me that that was standard procedure but it didnt mean that I got to go home in one day. I had my surgery on Wed. and went home on Fri morning.

If they have to go for a more extensive surgery (abdominal vs. vaginal, for instance) they'll call your insurer and get more time certified.

My particular insurer doesn't say any particular length of stay -- they simply state, "Whatever is medically necessary" and leave it up to the dr.

Hope they can do yours vaginally and that you will only have to stay one night!!

Hospital Stay

Hi there, I had a TAH and was suppose to stay in the hospital for 2 days minimum, depending on how I did. Well needless to say i didn't do well and ended up in there for 14 days. I had some special circumstances arise and I don't want to scare you but be prepared for whatever might happen. My body did not want to heal and I had to have a 2nd surgery due to a nursing error. I also had a catheter in for the whole stay which was ok, I never had to get up to pee.

Good Luck and I am praying for you.

Thanks

Well I guess I will know how long next Wed. I think I am scaring myself worrying, but I have never had surgery before. Never even had anything when I had our boys. So can't imagine what to expect. So far everyone I talk to says I will feel so much better. I sure hope so.

Giggles -- what additional surgery did you need?

Sorry to hear you were "in" for so long. That is one of my fears -- that something will go wrong and I'll end up in longer than I originally thought. But I know that's always a chance with surgery...

Hospital Stay

Hi there, I was in so long because my body did not want to start healing. I was very sick and vomitted for 3 days, everytime I moved. I went without eating anything for the first 8 days and then they put me on Liquid food through IV for 3 days and then I started getting better. My bowels did not want to wake up either. It was not very good at all but I am very well now, can't even tell I had surgery. I am glad I did it. I had a very good Dr. too.

I came home today - two days after SAH. They also took my catheter out the next morning. Hope this helps.
