Hi everyone! New to the website and I am so glad I found it! I am scheduled for a TAH on August 17th. How long is the usual hospital stay for a TAH?

Thanks, Becky

You will get a range of answers anywhere from 1 night to 5 nights. Depends on what your insurance company will pay for and where you live. Seems like the princesses here in the US get less time than the ones overseas.

I was in the castle 2 nights just about 46 hours.

2 nights for me too. In by Tuesday at 5:30a.m., out by Thursday at 3:30p.m.

Good luck on your surgery, and don't panic if your insurance only approves one night in the beginning. They tend to do that, then approve extra nights a day at a time as needed.

Hospital Stay for TAH

Hi Becky. I had a TAH/BSO 2 1/2 weeks ago. The average stay in the castle is 3 days. I myself was suppose to be in there for 3 days but i was told if you can eat solid foods,Walk, get rid if the cathater and use the bathroom on your own you can be discharged. I did all the above in less than 24 hours needless to say i went home...YEA! Good luck on your upcoming surgery.

Hospital Stay for TAH

I checked in Monday morning, had my surgery and was supposed to leave on Wednesday afternoon. I had to stay an extra day due to an elevated temp.
The main requirement for leaving seemed to be the ability to pass gas. They want to make sure your digestive system is working. Keep in mind that you will still feel quite weak when you leave, so make sure you have a comfy place to recover when you get home.
Best of luck!

Hospital Stay for TAH

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for replying to my message )

I called my insurance to see if my TAH has been approved yet and it is still under "medical review". The guy I talked to said that most likely it will be approved. I just like to know for sure though. He told me to call in a couple of days to check again. Did/does anyone have to go through this process too? I have to say, though, my insurance has been very good to me because they have paid for one years worth of Lupron, 4 laparoscopies and other medications for endometriosis. I am getting a TAH for severe endometriosis. I am only 32 and don't have any children of my own, but my boyfriend and I are in a serious relationship and he already has a 5 year old boy who I love dearly. My boyfriend said that he doesn't know if he wants anymore kids and he said as far as my decision on the TAH, that he would support me either way It was a hard decision too!

Thanks, Becky
