Endometrial ablation

Hi ladies

This is one happy little vegemite posting from Australia. I thought my first post would be in the pre-op board after two gyno's told be that a hysterectomy was the only way they could help my very heavy bleeding probably due to submucosal fibroids. I asked each of them about endometrial ablation and they both told me it was not suitable for my case.

Yesterday I got in the car for a long drive to a third gyno that I had found on the internet. I picked him because he sounded enthusiastic about minimal intervention approaches and I was intending to see whether he would be willing to leave my cervix - the others argued against it. I was beating myself up about spending more time and money on a third opinion and wondering if I shoouldn't just accept my fate and stop fighting.

I am so glad I went. After inspecting my ultrasound (neither of the others even looked at the pics - just the report) and asking a range of questions he got me up on the table for another scan and told me he was pretty confident that he could resection my fibroids and do an edometrial ablation to stop or minimise my periods. I had difficulty restraining myself from hugging him.

So I am booked in for a day procedure next week! I will let you know how it goes.

And if you are questioning your options as I was - keep checking, keep questioning, use the internet and I wish the best of luck to you.

All the best
