epideral or general anestesia ?

Hi GAGAL

I was also very surprised to learn that there are alternatives to the standard general anesthesia that is offerred to the majority of us. While, for me, it wasn't much of an issue since I've never adversely reacted to anesthesia (though I must admit that, with the hyst, the nausea was much more than I'd ever had to deal with ), I do know that some members seem to fare much better with an epidural or a spinal.

Of course, there are situations where one form of anesthesia is best and situations where spinals and epidural are contra-indicated, but it is certainly an issue worth discussing with both your doctor and your anesthesiologist.

If you do "Search", you'll see that this topic has often been discussed and might find some useful information.

Sending lots of s your way and wishing you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery.

epideral or general anestesia ?

I was given the option, but they didn't really push the issue. To be honest, I wanted to be knocked out totally. I didn't know much about the epidural, but wasn't really interested in it. I think at the time they just had to let me know about it. I am not disappointed in the route that I chose at all.

epideral or general anestesia ?

Hi GAGAL!
I had an epidural for my hyst last July. They still give you a sedative to relax you, so you know some...not much though! I also had a bladder tuck at the same time and I remember waking up when I had my urologist's very distinctive voice. I said hey, he said hey and I went back to sleep!! If you have any questions, email me.

epideral or general anestesia ?

Hi gagal,

With my TAH I had a general. In june of this year I had a general and the epideral for pain control after my cele's repair's. They had to put the epideral in 3 times before surgery and one more try after surgery. I have DDD in my lower back and tailbone area and bone spurs in my mid back. Please talk your dr and the anisthyoligist if you have any back problems. I had only heard great things about epiderals untill my sugery. I wish it would have worked for me. Good luck.
