Newbie...dermoid cysts and elevated CA125

OK...just finished a couple weeks of dread and diagnostics, my ob-gyn says the intravaginal ultrasound indicates dermoid cysts on both ovaries pretty definitely...but my CA 125 was elevated. No endometriosis that I know of. Looks like possibly others have had this happen, from a board search, would like to know if anyone out there explored other things to explain the elevated CA 125??
Going to have an laparascopic oophorectomy (not really a hyster...so I guess I'm just partially qualified??) since my mother had fallopian tube cancer (yes, really, it was NOT ovarian cancer, altho it had spread to the ovaries) so the cancer thing is pretty scary and close to home.

HUGE S and Welcome to Cancer Concerns.

I am sorry for what you are going thru. I wish that I would be able to answer your questions.

A CA-125 is not an acurrate test in and of itself. If you are premenopausal it can be elevated for several reasons, as you stated endometrosis, or I 'think' if you are ovulating at the time of the test it may also be elevated.

All I can really say is that if your doctor even suspects cancer to have him refer you to a GYN/ONC, as they are the best when it comes to female cancers.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that everything comes out benign.

God Bless

Welcome to our Corner of Hysters

I fully agree with what Jane just told you. Be sire that your doctor knows your mother's history as well. Hoping that your cysts are benign--they could cause a rise in CA125 as could an infection, etc.
