Another surgery - help advice needed

Hi gals,

Its been a while since I have posted anything. I am having such big problems now that this is the one place I felt I could go for some answers.

I had a abdominal hyst on Dec. 4 of 2002. I had everything, but my right ovary removed. In July 2003 I had half of my left breast removed for tumors that they told me were beign and at that time I had started having alot of pain again in my pelvic area - and on my right side. I had an ultrasound that revealed a large growth on my remaining ovary. I had surgery in Sept.2003 to remove the growth and maybe the ovary. During the process of the dr making the incision on my hysterectomy scar - she cut through my bowels. I was a mess! Then a blood clot formed in my abdomen and they still had not gotten to the reason I had had the surgery in the first place! It took 8 months for the clot and things to heal. I am back to having severe pain again and I was told yesterday that I need to have the ovary removed and that I will probably need bowel repairs, my gall bladder and appendix removed for the endometriosis growing. The tumors are back in my breast as well! I am seeing a different surgeon and he plans on having a team of drs in for the surgery due to my last mishap- but I am so scared. I am scared of the surgery itself, but also the removal of the ovary. I am only 33 and I am worried about the effects of not having the hormones and what all it does to you mentally and physically? The dr plans to put me on estrogen as soon as I have the surgery, but I am not sure what to expect. My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 10. What do I need to be asking and what do I expect from all of this??

Thanks for listening to me vent!

Nancy

HI

You poor thing!! You have been through alot!!! Ive had two surgeries, one lap to remove endo and cysts that lasted 2 hours, then 6 months later a TAH/BSO. I am no expert on any of this, all I've learned, I've learned the hard way, AFTER the fact! It is good that you are researching everything. I can help with the hormone thing, in as much as I went cold turkey after my surgery. No HRT at all. I don't want to feed the endo, and I'm not sure that HRT will, but I didn't want to take any chances. Yes, surgical menopause is very hard. The night sweats have to be the worse part of it for me. But now, they have calmed down alot, your body is going through "withdrawl" it just happens to be the estrogen it is withdrawing from! I didn't have any brain-fog, or forgetfulness, probably mood swings, but that may just be life causing that!! I wish you the best of luck with this surgery, and I hope it will be the last one for you, you have certainly had enough.
God Bless
