Biopsy Results were negative

I had my follow-up appointment yesterday with the GYN. He said the endometrial biopsy showed only normal tissue. The vulvar biopsies were lichen sclerosis (again).

Thanks for your kind thoughts and concern!

Thanks Margaret and Debbie!

I found this definiton of lichen sclerosis on the National Lichen Sclerosus Support Group site (based in UK):

"What is Lichen Sclerosus?
Lichen sclerosus is a poorly recognised chronic inflammatory skin disorder which mainly affects the vulval and perianal area. Although it is considered a condition which mainly affects mature women, there are women of all ages with LS. Men can have the disorder and this affects the penis and sometimes the anal area. Children can also suffer from LS and it can sometimes affect other areas of the body. When lichen sclerosus affects areas of the body other than the genitals, it is know as "extra genital lichen sclerosus". It is not known what causes LS but it has been found that there is a connection between LS and thyroid disease, vitiligo and other auto-immune diseases. Some doctors are now talking about the possibility that LS may be genetic. It is not possible to get LS through sexual intercourse, it is not a sexually transmitted disease and it is not infectious."

You can find out more about this disorder on their site.

I was first diagnosed with this disorder after two vulvar biopsies in January. I had never heard of it until then. My only symptom was the discolored (white and tannish) areas.

Happy Day. While I'm sure you are not happy to have LS, at least it is not something worse. I know that you and your doc will keep an eye on it.
