Anyone still on pain meds at 3 weeks?

I am 3 weeks post op today. Is anyone else still on pain medication at this point? I have read several post about ladies who go off the pain meds. just a few days after surgery, and I don't know how they do it.
I am currently still taking 1 1/2 Lortabs a day. I don't think that is very much and I have tapered them down from about 4 to 6 a day in the beginning. But I am getting worried that I shouldn't need them anymore. I am not in pain all day. In fact, in the mornings I feel pretty darn good. But by noon I am feeling more achey and weak and shakey, so I take 1/2 of my 7.5 mg Lortab. That seems to do the trick in the afternoon. Then by bedtime I am even more uncomfortable, so I take another 1/2, but that just doesn't seem to cut it, so I take the other 1/2 in order to get the pain under control enough to sleep. It is not a sharp severe pain, but more of a dull ache that just get worse and worse as the day goes on.
By the way, I am allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen. I can take tylenol, but that doesn't seem to do anything for me at all.

Hmmmmmm, Maybe you should call your doctor.....
I wonder why you still have pain after three weeks?
There may be something else going on. (just my opinion)

Anyone still on pain meds at 3 weeks?

If you need it, then take it. I went off pain meds at 4 days post-op because of an allergic reaction to Vicodin. I switched to Advil. I was doing really well for a while, not much pain and was able to sleep. Then during the end of week 2 I started to have pain again and took Percocet when I couldn't stand it any more.

You are the only one that knows your body and what you can stand. Some people can deal with the pain and others have a hard time with it. Also, some done have as much pain as others.

I do think that you heal quicker without pain meds. I had a laparoscopy back in Nov. and took my pain meds right on schedule so that I didn't feel the pain, I was still in a lot of pain by week 3. This time I had a hyster with laparoscopy (same incisions) and I was feeling good just a few days after.

I hope you start to feel better soon!

Anyone still on pain meds at 3 weeks?

Hi Susan,

I was still taking pain meds during my third week. I too was worried as my doc had told me that by week 4 I'd probably be feeling pretty good and with the way I was feeling at week 3 I just couldn't possibly see how that was possible! Like you, I would start out feeling well in the AM, however, I got to feeling progressively worse as the day wore on - lots of aches & pains. It was like the more tired I got, the more the pains would increase. I kept taking my Lortabs and found that as the week wore on that the length of time between meds was increasing. I am now 4 weeks post-op - and true to my docs word - I'm feeling pretty darn well. That's not to say that I'm 100% yet, but from the way I felt at week 3 to now is pretty amazing to me. I have only had to take one pain pill since last Friday. That was yesterday and it was after a full day back on the job. So I would say that I feel that you are okay - not all of us recover at the same rate. However, if you are really concerned about this, by all means call your doc. It's better to be safe than sorry and peace of mind can go a long ways!!!!

Best wishes!

Anyone still on pain meds at 3 weeks?

I am a little over 3 wks. post op. I have been taking advil or tylenol around the clock. (percocet made me hper and nauseous).Yesterday was the first day I didn't take it in the AM.It is now 1PM and I am really ready to take my first dose of the day.I still wake frequently during the night because of discomfort. As others have mentioned the discomfort increases as the day wears on.Keep in touch with your Doc. about the best pain mamagement strategies for YOU at this time. HE/SHE may say what you are doing is fine or may recommend some management alternatives that you don't know about that are better for where you are today. Let us know. I certainly would like to hear alternatives/suggestios etc. I am soooo sick of feeling uncomfortable esp. at night!!!!!

Anyone still on pain meds at 3 weeks?

I too felt guilty about taking pain meds at 3 weeks. I felt I should be off of them so I would suffer with feeling badly for a few hours and then go ahead and take one, and feel so much better. I am 4 weeks today and feel great in the morning and by the afternoon- a little rough. Now I take a couple of ibuprofin and it seems to do the trick. I am going on a 3 hour plane ride on Thursday so I will bring my pain meds and if I need them I will take one if I need too.
