Just wondering....

At my pre-op I was asked if I had any neck injuries, etc. When I said I had severe whiplash in 1988, the nurse said to be sure to tell the anest. doc.

I've been wondering if they position us in some kind of "contorted" sling or something to work on us. Part of me wants to know, part of me would rather leave it to the imagination!

As it is, I've got these weird images in my mind!

Anyone know about this?

Just wondering....

The anesthesiologist needs to know because they tilt your head back when they intubate you.

It was very simple, the anesth. asked me to tilt my head back and forward and kind of felt the back of my neck and was satisfied at that point. If you do have neck mobility problems, definitely mention it to the anesth.

It's just something they need to be aware of, they can deal with it if they know of the condition ahead of time.

Take care.
