Urine coming from vagina.

Hi,

I went to the doctor's yesterday and he tols me that it was urine, he said that my bladder may have attached itself to my vagina in a small area. Has anyone had this happen to them? I am very upset about this I was starting to feel human again. This happened 8 days after surgery. He said that I may have to wear a catheter and by wearing this the small part where they are attached will heal over. Please let me know if anyone experienced this problem.

thanks
Jeannie

Urine coming from vagina.

Hi Jeannie I've moved your post over here to the Bladder Matters forum for better support.

What your DR described is called a vesicovaginal fistula (VVF). A fistula is an abnormal opening connecting two body parts that are not supposed to be connected, in your case the bladder and vagina. Unfortunately, we have a number of members who have experienced this same thing. Hopefully they will be along soon to share their experiences.

Meanwhile, you might try taking a look in our Resources forum, in the Bladder Matters section. To get to Resources, just click on the word "Resources" in the banner at the top of any page on this site. There are several good links in there to sites which have information about VVF's and their treatment.

I'm so sorry you've experienced this complication from your surgery. I hope it will heal itself and no further surgery will be required Good luck!

s,
-Linda

Urine coming from vagina.

Hi, Jeannie!

So sorry to hear of your complication. I am a fistula sister and I know how devestating it is to hear things are not going right. There was one sister who posted over the summer whose fistula did close by itself naturally. However, unfortunately, that is not the case with most of us fistula sisters.

My fistula is the result of my original gyne accidentally injuring my bladder during the hyst. During the middle of the hyst they had to find a uro to repair that injury. I was sent home from the hospital with a foley catheter for a couple of weeks; shortly after it was removed, the leaking began.

This has been a very hard and long road to travel. I wish you luck on your own journey, and truly hope you are one of the lucky ones and your fistula heals naturally.

Good luck!
Dee

Urine coming from vagina.

HI Jeannie

I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I am a little confused as to what the Dr told you as to what is actually happening. Did he mention a VVF(vescio-vaginal fistula) or something else. I hope you are feeling better and get some answers real soon.

I have not posted in a while and you are my 1st. You will get the BEST support here- so check in often and ask anything at all.

Sending a warm to you and all my "sisters".

Urine coming from vagina.

Hi Jeannie,
'
I am sorry to hear your Dr suspects a fistula. Hopefully by wearing the catheter the connection between your bladder and vagina will heal naturally and the leak will stop. However, if it doesn't I strongly recommend being referred to a Urologist who specialises in fistula repairs. This is a very specialised field and it is important to get a surgeon who has plenty of experience which will increase your chances of successful repair.
If you would like to read my story you can click onto 'my journal' on the left here under my name. Good luck and let us know how you are.

Urine coming from vagina.

Thanks for all your help I am going to the doctor today and he is going to send me to a uro Dr. I hope this can be fixed easy. I was felling so good now with this problem I'm not sure how I feel.

I'll post after I hear what the doctor has to say.

Thanks again
Jeannie
