pre stage cervical cancer

Was told that I have pre stage cancer cells in my cervix.
He said that's it is concidered pre stage because the biopsy didn't show that it had invaded the tissue. He didn't do any ultra sound or scans. I'm kind of nervous about it being further in me than it showed. I've heard about people be diagnosed with low grade only to find out later that they were more infected with it than they thought. Th Dr. said that when they go in for the hysterectomy that they will check and make sure it hasn't spread and they will send samples to the lab. He seemed confident that he wouldn't find anything else, but he sounded confident that everything looked o.k until he got the lab reports back showing pre stage.
I'm really nervous about the cancer more than the hysterectomy.

cervical cancer - what now?

Then again, you may not need the catheter. I was told this was a possibility, but when they go in, they do a wash, dumping about a liter of saline into your abdomen, then suction it off. That goes to the pathologist while they proceed cutting. If the wash comes back clean (they know dirung surgery) and they feel that they got the cancer without breaking off any cells, and they see no signs of cancer in any other abdominal organs (bladder, kidneys, diaphram, colon, and they will palpate all of these, leaving you feeling really bruised all over, because they are not gentle, they cannot be) they will not go for the lymp nodes. The lymp nodes require a deeper cut, outside of the abdominal cavity (they follow the lower bodies arterial and nerve paths from the spine, and are about the size of a poppy seed, so they have to really dig for them) and therefore they often damage the bladder/kidneys/ureters. I was told this was a possibility, but the doc said not to borrow trouble, if all went well, I would not have to face this. I have come home with a foley cath after prior surgeries, and it wasn't so bad, so I was not frightened by it, and it will not be forever.

Here is hoping you don't need it!

Thanks again for the responses - I'm set for surgery tomorrow AM. Keep up the good thoughts! We'll all make it ok.
(Side note - my Dr. was stuck in Dallas,TX due to ice! He HOPES to make it back in time for the "big event"!)
