Still waiting !?!

I had a TAH/BSO Aug. 30 and was told they did find cancer. I am still waiting for the results of the grading and staging of the cancer to come back. I have called the GYN office the last 3 days and they have heard nothing!!! Is it normal for it to take this long? I feel like the longer it takes the worse the results will be. I know they want to be sure of their results but I am scared to death.

So sorry to hear of your diagnosis...
Though I'm not getting treatment in the States, I have certainly heard lots of testamonies of ladies having to wait for results. The length of time to wait for results does NOT have anything to do with the results!
The waiting IS the hardest thing though! Bless you! Hang in there! And know you are not alone. There are many wonderful women on this forum who bring tons of encouragement...
I'll be praying for you.

It's certainly worth a call to the doctor (you have a GYN-oncologist, right?). But sometimes they do special preps to the tissue for best definition of the cells and so on. My path report took a week or so to be final, and they sent slides off to another center (that's what I was told, anyway). All that took time.

But call -- can't hurt! If nothing else, they can call the hospital (if they've not gotten it yet) and get the transcription moved up some...

Have they discussed further treatment with you yet? That can offer clues as to what they found at the time of surgery. Again, worth a call to the surgeon's office!

Good luck to you. You'll sure get lots of information around here!

Still waiting !?!

I still like my surgeon, but . . . . His nurse told me that calling patients with pathology / biology reports was low on his list of priorities! Hmmmmmmmm. I've had two breast biopsies done on his orders. The first time I just waited until he called. As it go to be a week after, I figured all was well. He didn't call, it was his nurse. That time I got the DCIS diagnosis.

During the second ultrasound and biopsy, the radiologist told me going in to the biopsy that she was 99% sure it was benign. She said the surgeon would have the results in one and one-half to two days. Two days later I really started pestering the surgeon (his nurse / office) for the results. I wanted to know for sure. I called about four or five times. Even made a trip to the clinic. He called me late on a Friday. Benign!!

Keep pestering your doc if you need to.

Waiting is THE Worst!

I hope you do get the results soon. It's possible they sent the tests and slides out for another opinion. I'd keep calling and just reminding them that you're really concerned. The longer wait doesn't mean bad at all. But the waiting--oy vey!

Thanks for the responses. I called again today and they gave me the prlim report, the cancer is confined to uterus. Now an oncologist is looking at the reports but they say I shouldn't need further treatment. I will still get an opinion from an oncologist I know, so I feel safe that all is clear.
