PLease get your hormone blood panel done BEFORE surgery

sisters do your self a favor and get your hormone blood panel done before your surgery, even if you keep your overies you might need to know. most dr do not suggest this, but you will need this, it is very important for after.

PLease get your hormone blood panel done BEFORE surgery

I asked my Dr. and she said that hormones fluctuate so wildly that it would be of no use to have a panel done in advance of surgery. She said if I have problems, we'd go from there. I kept my ovaries and so far have felt like I was low on progesterone, which I felt pre op too. I started using an otc cream again.

Hi

I guess that would make sense if you are happy with your hormone levels prior to surgery. In my case, there is no way I would want to duplicate what I felt like prior to surgery and I know my family would agree!

If you are facing the possibility of losing your ovaries, know what your options for HRT are before you need it. It's much easier to research ahead of time than later, when you are stressed and anxious for relief!

I love how I feel between periods and am afraid to loose my ovaries and never feel that 'bouncy' again. But I am using the patch to try to alleviate the pain and bleeding, would that not change the effect of the hormone reading?

Also I read above about OTC cream, is that progesterone cream? what is this, where do you get it, what strengths? Iknow that on the patch I am suffering from IBS and hypoglycemia and need progesterone. Gimme the scoop.

I use ProGest by Emerita because it was recommended in a book by Dr. Northrup, a woman gyn, called the "Wisdom of Menopause". I got it online at Vitacost.com because it is the cheapest I have found. Health food stores charge almost $30 for the same thing, and it's $17 on the site. I also noticed there was a difference in some creams that are cheaper in that they do not have the USP label on them, and it's better to have that.

In the book it's stated that women in perimenopause are estorgen dominant, and to balance it out, one needs progesterone. The OTC cream is the lowest strength, and there are stronger strengths with a prescription. I find I sleep better when I use this cream. A menstruating woman uses the cream up to one week before her period, but I don't get that anymore of course, so guess I'll just take a break around the time I would have gotten my period.
