3 days postop TAH

I am writing for my mother who is also a hystersister. I am 9 months postop TVH and feel wonderful!!
My mother is 3 days postop TAH with ovaries removed and feels like she should be up and around. She got home from the hospital last night and is only taking percocet every 6-9 hours and motrin every 6-8 hours. She is extremely tired and just feels like she should be doing better.
I would like some guidance because she thinks everyone is up and around by day 3 postop... she is very disheartened.

I keep telling her she is doing great but I need some guidance from all of you who have had TAH.

3 days postop TAH

I Carroll,

I had an SAH about 8 weeks ago. The first few days for me once I got home were probably the hardest. My days went something like this: Wake up, pee, grab water and drugs, back to my favorite chair, nap, repeat......I didn't read, I never saw a whole tv show from start to finish, couldn't work a crossword puzzle, didn't do anything other than sleep and relax.

In my experience, I started feeling a little more "normal" after about three or four days at home. I still spent the most part of each day resting and napping, but I felt more in control of my energy levels. I still have days even now after I've returned to work where a full day of activity is just not possible. I'm ready for a nap right now, and am planning to get one in a few.

Please tell your mom for me that she should listen to her body as much as she possibly can. Feed it when it's hungry, but if it wants sleep, give it sleep and rest, as much as possible. Your body does most of its healing when you're asleep, and the trauma of the surgery has given it a lot of work to do, so although mom's not running around the block, her body's still got plenty it's taking care of.

I'm sure if you've spent much time around these boards you've seen the princess rules -- rest, get plenty of water, walk when you can, take your pain meds as needed, and rest. It's your turn to play pillow police for your mom, make sure she gets the assistance and rest she needs.

As your mom feels better, invite her to drop by and visit us. We'd love to have both of you hanging around with us.

3 days postop TAH

I am 5 days post op. TAH/BSO. I had surgery on monday a.m. Tues night I walked outside. It was a beautiful day. After that I was extremely tired. I came home wednesday a.m. I have been very tired since. I get up,pee, walk out to living room and have breakfast with a motrin. Sit a little bit then walk back down hallway couple times and then nap for an hour or so. I sit up in bed, read, watch tv. for couple hours. Walk out for lunch, basically repeat breakfast routine, and then back for a nap. I can only sleep 2-3 hours at a time, and am having terrible hot flashes/night sweats. I was told by dr. and nurses that this was what to expect for first week or so. Good Luck to your mom, and grats to you too.

3 days postop TAH

I had a TAH at the age of 39, textbook surgery and recovery, and it took me weeks before I was "up and around." As a matter of fact, I wasn't even released from the hospital until my 4th day!

Have your Mom read my recovery journal, and she can get an idea of what "normal" is. The link is to the left here below my user information. And remind her that she only gets one chance to heal properly. Tell her to relax and take it easy - she'll recover much faster if she gives her body a chance to heal.

Tie your mom to the bed if you have to LOL!
I can't imagine doing much of anything 3 days post-op, I was still in the hospital. I was walking but about 5 min at a time was enough to knock me out.
I got home and day 4 I went to the grocery store with my friend and rode around on the handicapped scooter. Even that was way too much.
I think I have a pretty high tolerance to pain, but I took Percocet every 4 hours for the first week, then tapered off to 8 hours until about day 9 when I finally quit taking them.
I'm doing really well after 2-1/2 weeks, but if I hadn't taken it easy I'd probably wouldn't be.
Like others told me when I said I was ready to jump on my motorcycle and go cruising this weekend, you only have on chance to heal right. So make sure Mom takes care of herself.

Hi ,

I had a TAH and my first week was spent sleeping, peeing and maybe a bit of pudding or jello. The second week was alot better.
