Changes in food preferences

I am 10 days post op and one thing I have noticed is my food preferences have changed. My DH cooked steaks last night thinking (sweetly) that red meat would help me rebuild my strength. Normally I would have truly enjoyed a steak cooked on the grill but I couldn't eat it. I have also lost my taste for cheese and bread. I crave fish and chicken which is pretty healthy I think but normally I have enjoyed a wider variety of foods.

Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

I don't enjoy chocolate or anything containing artificial sweetener anymore. They just don't taste right. I can handle not eating artificial sweetener...but chocolate?????

Changes in food preferences

my preferences don't seemed to have changed but my appetite sure has! I've lost 17 lbs since surgery, not that I'm complaining mind you I need to lose even more. I just don't need the quantity of food I did before surgery

Changes in food preferences

my food preference changes lasted a few weeks. I think the anesthesia and pain meds, etc. changed taste and smell for awhile. Everything tastes normal to me now at almost 8 weeks post-op. My appetite is still greatly decreased. That will change when I get up to my regular exercise level. I worked out a couple of times this week and that seemed to help a lot.

Changes in food preferences

Confessed CHOCOHOLIC here!! So much so that on the day of surgery, after I had gotten to my room my DH (knowing that I wouldn't be able to have any "real" food for quite some time) gave me the cutest bear with an apron on it that said "I Loooove Chocolate" and when you squeeze his paw he growls and says it too!! BUT, chocolate just doesn't do it for me anymore, I could take or leave it. I went to a swiss chocolate store and bought some truffels thinking that they would "help in the healing process" while I sat on my throne and watched Jerry Springer, but even those are still sitting in the fridge lol,, NOT the worst side affect of surgery

Changes in food preferences

My food preferences have changed as well as my appetite. Most days i have no idea what i feel like eating and that was never a problem with me before. One thing i can't eat anymore is pork. Often i have a bowl a cereal when nothing else seems appealing. Sure hope this passes. Going on 3 months post op here.

Changes in food preferences

It happened to me also and lasted from several weeks to one month or so.

Not only could I NOT eat the things I love, I couldn't smell them either without wanting to hurl....it was not pretty. I couldn't even make coffee for my husband....YUK!

I am happy to report that this, too, shall pass! Thank goodness because I would just die without that one cup of morning Joe. I lost ten pounds rather quickly and have since put it back on.

Hugs,

Jackie

Changes in food preferences

I never could do without my diet Pepsi, and now I have no desire for soda! Now I either drink Crystle Light Lemonade or just water. This is very very unlike me, and I just wonder if I'll ever go back to my soda. There is also a change in my appetite too. I can't eat as much as I used to, which I guess is actually a good thing. I lost 15 pounds just worrying before my surgery (TAH-BSO,) so hopefully, the appetite thing will stay this way, and I won't gain it back! I probably won't be that lucky though.

Changes in food preferences

Hi
I am coming up for 6 months now, and I have to say that my appetite hasn't increased much since my early post op days, my taste have all changed too.
Choccy just aint what it used to be. I spend ages deciding what I fancy to eat cos I just don't fancy anything, so I have to wait until I am really starving to see what I fancy then
Unfortunately I haven't lost much weight, at the minute there's a battle on, but I am getting a little bit toned with all the exercise, so there is some light at the end of the tunnel!
