Adhesions, Anyone?

Well, that’s what I think I’ve got. I’m hoping someone who’s had them can give me a little input. I had TAH/BSO last December (2003). I really felt pretty good right after and I know I did more than I should have, but I didn’t figure that out until about 3 months later when I was still feeling like a month post op and found this website. Anyway, to make a long story a little shorter, I feel pretty bad by the end of most days. I have sort of a generally achy pain around the incision and a pain that is sharper and more localized on my left side just below it. Sitting seems to aggravate it and it’s always worse in the afternoon and evening. Usually feels pretty good when I wake up in the morning. The whole area of the incision feels tight, and I can feel sort of a tugging there when I flex my ankle (how odd is that?!?!!?) or do something like open a cabinet. Sometimes when I walk it kind of “grabs”. It doesn’t hurt to have sex, but it always hurts more later on, sometimes for a couple of days. Anything that jars my body causes pain. I’ve had the colonoscopy (negative) and have been taking Levsin for a month (to treat possible IBS), with no improvement. I don’t really have any GI symptoms like some others, just the pain.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I’m scheduled for a lap in 2 weeks so I’m looking for a little info from my sisters who have been there.

hi

Hi,
I Have EXACTly the same thing! I feel pretty good most mornings, after sitting in work all day, the general area of the insicion aches. If I press on certain parts, it feels like a fresh bruise! I can't call this "pain", as it doesn't wake me up, but it is ALWAYS there. I had a TAH/BSO 13 months ago. It is really getting me down! Leaning against something, or wearing tight pants makes it worse. I am afraid to go back to the DR, as everytime I have surgery (first lap, then hyst) it seems to bring on different problems! Are they doing the lap to check for adhesions? Who is doing your surgery, your gyn? Is he/she and expert on adhesions removals? From what I've read, they can put some sort of mesh in you to try and stop them from forming again. Feel free to PM me if you's like to chat more. Please keep us informed on how you make out, as alot of us sisters on the road seem to have this problem Good Luck!!!

Adhesions, Anyone?

I have always had GI symptoms as part of PMS .I had a hystrerectomy in Jan Ovaries preserved

In april this year I had a suspect intestinal infection that sparked off adhesion colic .

The pains wree two inches above and below the incision .

I suspect my initial adhesions were caused by my endometriosis and the subsequent surgeries did the rest .

I have been in and out of hospital this year and went through a whole string of GI and ENT tests to try and fish out the reason for my constant nausea .

The team finally hit upon the idea all along that the trigger was hormonal and my adhesions played a part . I was referred back to my gynae who had been spot on all along about the situation

I finally had a BSO and they did some work on my gut as well putting some sort of film or mesh about the parts of the gut that werestuck together . My ovaries were enlarged with endometriotic cysts and stuck to my gut

There has been some improvement and I pray this wil be the last surgery but then again I know the reality may be otherwise .

We shouldnt have to suffer like this and I sure hope that youwill find relief . Its a pain really and it ate into my life . It was even more irritating that people who didnt understand either thought I was puking on purpose or my diet was to blame
