granulation? HPV? Preserving good reproductive health?

I had my 2 week post op last week. I brought my DH and a list of questions, but my doc talks so fast and so much I'm still confused about a few things.

He mentioned that I have granulation on my cervix (I had an LSH). What is that? He didn't seem too worried.

Also, I had severe dysplasia and carcinoma in situ last year (removed by LEEP). As I understand it, usually women with a history of bad paps aren't candidates for supracervical hysts. The doc said that my DH is probably infected with the HP virus, but that I'm immune to getting it from him, and that I should be fine so long as I "hold on to him." Huh? I had the choice of LAVH or LSH--didn't seem to matter to the doc either way.

Since I had a cyst on each ovary, I wanted to know how we would monitor ovaries in the future....after all, nothing was felt by him during an exam I had just 2 weeks before I had the ultra-sound showing the complex adnexal cyst and a symptomatic uterus.

I DO like this doc. He's smart and compassionate and technically very skilled. But, boy do I have to prep before each appt and do my research. Most of the good questions I've asked him have come from you sisters (he's been impressed). It's really clear to me that it's up to me to stay on top of my health and to use him as a consultant. I get so much more info from you all!

So, does anyone know about granulation, recurrance of dysplasia and carcinoma in situ, and how to keep track of the health of your ovaries?

granulation? HPV? Preserving good reproductive health?

Hi Margot,

Granulation is an area that has not healed and is often treated with silver nitrate, which is swabbed onto the area and has a cauterizing effect. I experienced granulation on my vaginal cuff (my cervix was removed) when I was several months post-op and one treatment with silver nitrate corrected it. Perhaps you have granulation on an area where your uterus was removed from your cervix? I had a radical hyst for cervical cancer, so my procedure was not the same as yours.

I think that you have very good questions and that they will best be answered by your Dr. I have used a written list also when I've met with my Dr. and it has helped me tremendously. Perhaps you could ask your Dr. to slow down or pause a moment in between your questions so you have the opportunity to complete your notes as he responds.

As far as recurrence, I would think that routine PAP's would be the best defense, and perhaps more frequently than once/year. Again, your Dr. will be able to tell you what's best based on your history.

Best wishes and s
