new here and facing possible hysterectomy

10-03-2004 07:55 PM

Hello,my name is Christina,I'm 34 yrs old, married 18yrs have 2 teenage boys. My problems started about 10 yrs ago.My Symptoms were nasty cramping, irregualar periods, pain in lower right side most of the time. In 93 had my first D&C and lap.At that time I had a cyct removed from right overy.Things were great for about 2 years. Then my symptoms returned. The pain wasn't so bad until I had what I can only assume was a large cyct {I did not know this at that time}had burst in me in 1996.My problems got worse from there.A g/f suggested I try the depo shot to help with pain.I gave it a try and it worked for awhile. Not knowing what to do I just dealt with the pain for a couple more years.I had gone to see the doctor but he couldn't find anything but a small cyct on my right overy,he saide it is to small to be causing me this much trouble. So now we are in the year 2004 and I am having more problems than ever.Pain in lower right side most of the time, some times on left, painfull intercouse with some light bleeding and what I can only discribe as cervix and uterus pains and bad cramping when I need to have bowel movement but cramps disappear after having a bowel movement.
In may of this year I had another D&C/lap done with no source for pain.We figured this would take care of the pain, well I wasn't that lucky.I returned to gyno on oct first,He did exam with again no source for pain,so he recommends a hysterectomy and he says he can't promise that will cure the problems.I have suffered long enuff but don't think I'm ready for the big H. Very confused and not sure what to do from here.

I am very glad I found this site and even prouder that I'm a part of it.Thank you so much for being here.

hyst decision

Christina,
So many of us have and are still enduring the same question. To have or not to have a hysterectomy. I only suggest that you get several opinions so when you do decide, you will know that your are totally informed on your decision.

I personally have decided to try and hold off on the hysterectomy for a while. You will know when the time is right. I'm so sorry that you are having pain and I know you so tired of it.

I will keep you in my prayers. Just remember that we are here for you so stay in touch with us.

new here and facing possible hysterectomy

Wolflover,

I am 39 yrs old and had my tubes tied 18 yrs ago after the birth of my third child. Ever since that time I have had heavy, extended, painful periods. I've only been on this site a few days but I have read enough of the stories to have finally realized I was never alone in my misery.

All those years I just tried to "deal" with it. I had the D&C/Lap 2 years ago finally when I just couldn't take it anymore. And like you that worked... for a little while. My cycles were still heavy but not clotty and not all that painful. I thought I was in heaven, LOL. But at 18 months after that procedure it all came back with a passion. So I went back and the doc did all the testing again and really couldn't tell anything from them... he only suspected adeno. At that point I no longer cared whether I had it or not, let us take the **** thing out and see what happens. He found only two smalls instances of endo and a cyst on my right ovary. Pathology is being done for determination on the adeno. My uterus was also twice the size it should have been. During my D&C 2 yrs ago he put saline in there and said instead of flushing out, my uterus absorbed it, indicating adeno. I've looked for other tests on determination of adeno before surgery and only found the one you mentioned but its expensive and my ins co would rather pay for removal than the test, go figure.

I wish you luck in your search for an answer. For me it was a quality of life issue. I'm always on the go and there were things I couldn't do because at least two weeks out of every month I was just in pain, bleeding, bloating, cramping, sleeping, crying, LOL you name it. Add that up... thats half the dang year not feeling well! I'm looking forward to seeing how things will be now that my uterus is gone!

Keep me posted!

Hugs
