Hello all.........I am almost 3 months post-op(tah, including both ovaries) I have no interest in sex at all, this is very frusterating for myself and hubby. Before my surgery we had a great sex life but now it almost repulses me(of course i haven't told him that)....WHY.......Tell me I am not the only one who feels this way...Thanks all

Hi Jill
Believe me, you are not alone. I am 5 months post op from a TAH, kept both ovaries. I have no drive what so ever and it is bugging me to death. My DH has been very patient, but it isn't fair to him. I went through a tough time with recovery, medical complications, then depression. I just had my gallbladder removed 2 weeks ago. I thought I would be to the point of enjoying a much improved lifestyle by now, but I guess I was wrong.
I know when your ovaries are taken it can take some time to get your hormone level adjusted. Maybe you need to have your level checked again. Also, our sisters say to relax , spend time alone somewhere with your significant and things will work out. With 4 teenage boys in my house and not much money to go anywhere it is hard to find much time alone. I go back to work tomorrow.
I started a new antidepressant yesterday and hoping it will settle my anxiety and moodiness down.I have been home too much these last 5 months and it is making me stir crazy.

I guess the best advice is to explain your feelings to him and just work on it. ???Some ladies swear avimil works wonders. I am considering trying it.

Good luck, I know it is frustrating.

I know you know this deep down inside, but there is no "normal" after a hysterectomy. It will be nice, though, for you to hear this from all your HysterSisters.

I really feel for you, but you don't have to suffer through this. Why not schedule an appointment with your doctor specifically to discuss this? If you don't get the answer or solution you need there, go to another doctor. Don't give up!

When I had loss of libido presurgery during my "fibroid phrase," I felt terrible when I didn't want to be intimate with my DH. He understood and I tried to find ways around it, especially by being very intimate with him in non-sexual ways.

Even when WE don't have a libido we still WANT a libido. I feel for you and hope you have a good doctor who will work with you on this. In the meantime, don't be hard on yourself. When my libido came back, it came back tenfold. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Hi Jillmarie

No, you aren't the only one. Are you using anything for hormones now that your ovaries are gone? It would be common to be prescribed an estrogen replacement unless there is some reason you can't take it or chose not to. In addition to estrogen, your ovaries also produced progesterone and testosterone. It could be that you're lacking in those hormones.

I think it would be a good idea to contact your doctor and let him/her know what's going on. If your doctor isn't receptive to your concerns, find another doctor who is knowledgeable about prescribing hormones. One good way to do that is to find a compounding pharmacist. Look in your local phone book or use this
Compounding Pharmacy Locator. A compounding pharmacy can give you the names of doctors who prescribe through them. It sounds backwards but it works for a lot of women!

At this time testosterone for women is only available from a compounding pharmacy although some doctors prescribe products such as Testim (which is made for men) to women. Women need to use much less of it then men. Proctor & Gamble has a testosterone patch pending FDA approval so women can also keep their fingers crossed that it will be approved and will be an option for them if they are having this problem.

One other note - it is a good idea to have your serum level of free testosterone checked before using testosterone. Low or missing libido can also be a symptom of low thyroid.

I hope you'll contact your doctor about this. This problem can definitely be helped by properly balancing your hormones.
