? about Aunt Flo's absence

Hey everybody,
I'm nearing that "time of the month" though I now have no uterus. Any ideas on what to expect PMS-wise? I still have both ovaries and my cervix and used to get pretty bad PMS...moody, bloating, sore boobs, etc. Curious to see what others have experienced.
Am I too hopeful to think PMS went away w/my SAH???
Thanks,
Moi

Dear Moi,

I'm at "that time of the month" (for the first time) and even though I had a TAH/BSO, I have been very weepy. A friend who had breast cancer drove me to the store today and she said she still has some PMS symptoms also. Other postings have referred to some cramping and being emotional.

Since my hysterectomy my PMS symptoms seem milder. I get breast swelling & tenderness, slight headache, and a bit of moodiness, The good news is that I no longer have cramps, backaches, or massive bleeding. I can usually tell when I am ovulating because I get a slight "twinge".

I, too, am wondering what to expect. I had been on continuous bcps for years, so haven't had a true period in years (however, just bled and or spotted constantly). I have no idea when my cycle might actually start. I suppose once it does it will be similar to years ago, but no cramps and bleeding. So, perhaps moodiness - hmmm, that won't seem so bad.

I've been on the pill since approx. 1975 so I'm not sure what PMS feels like either. Should be quite interesting. Never had swollen breasts or bloating or cranking, unless the cramps were so back from passing clots that I was ready to kill just to make it all go away. My bad feelings were all related to heavy bleeding after I started my period, never the time before. Thank god I won't have to deal with that anymore, but since I still have both ovaries, the next few months should be rather interesting..... my poor teenage son....he'll be going through puberty while I'm PMSing.... I use to get one or two big zits each month, so I guess I'll watch for those to tell me when I'm ovulating.

I still get the headache and general moodiness I used to get, but no cramps (whoooppppeeee!!!). Unfortunately, it's a LOT harder to tell which is me being in a bad mood, and which is PMS. Sigh. Some days I feel like I should come with a warning label.

I did find a couple of sites online that will help you track your PMS symptoms. I'm hoping mine will eventually settle into some kind of cycle that I can track more easily.
