Endometrial hyperplasia & PCOS...should I keep my ovaries?

Hi...six weeks ago, when my surgery was scheduled, my DR told me that she'd prefer for me to keep my ovaries (unless she sees something out of the ordinary when she gets in there) so that I'd still have natural estrogen (I have never produced progesterone...just part of my problems), but she would honor my wishes if I really wanted them removed during surgery. Anyway, I know that both ovaries are literally covered in cysts due to PCOS. Has anyone else been through this...what did you do? Right now, I'd just like to have everything removed. However, over the last 6 weeks, I've been back and forth on this issue. My pre-op with DR is Tuesday and I have to let her know what I've decided. Any help or advice is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you SO much!

This is your discision, however when I was in your shoes I choose to have it all removed. I never wanted to go thru another ruptured cyst, or for me another ovarian surgery for possible cancer. My DR did not want to remove mine. I am only 30 and he pushed me to keep at least one. I am only about 4 weeks post surgery, and have no regrets. Best discision i ever made.

Endometrial hyperplasia & PCOS...should I keep my ovaries?

Hi Kari....I know that keeeping the ovaries is such a hard and personal decision to make. Please go on the net and read as much as you can about PCOS. I know I did beore surgery...I really think that my ovaries were making me just as sick as my endo hyperplasia...but thats just my personal opinion. I had everything out because that was my choice. I think it says in your signature that your 34...and having the ovaries out will send you into surgical menopause...so hon, read, read and read some more. There really is a ton of information on the net about PCOS. I just pray that the Lord leads you to make the right decision thats just perfect for your future health. God Bless you dear sister.

Endometrial hyperplasia & PCOS...should I keep my ovaries?

Hi there.I am as I have been the last week, up early and on here.My surgery date is in 3 days.I had a hard time the day of my pre-op visit.I started to panick about my decision to have a hysterectomy and was totally confused about my overies.I had so much input from everywhere.I had thought I had a firm grip on my choice. It was a tough day..but I signed the papers and chose to have my overies out as well.I have 6 large growths in my uterous as well as the usual many on the outside.I figure if I am growing fybroids inside and out, then maybe I will be a candidate for more.My girlfriend lost her mom to ovarion cancer and I have cancer in my family.I don't want any later surprises, especially since my doctor recommened that I have them removed as well. This is my decision, one that I made for myself.Just take a deep breath and follow your instincts.I am sure whatever you choose to do,that it will be a relief after.I am strong on my feelings now..just have pre-surgery jitters..and doing too much to get my nest at home just perfect!!!Good luck to you..Talk to you after your surgery...Kathy
