Adhesions - oh no!

Hi gals. Been a while since I visited but its good to be back. Hope you're all doing well.

Brief update is that I had vaginal hysterectomy on 2nd April, but had a burst blood vessel which meant the full works abdominal surgery to repair it and clean up all the blood. Had major transfusion and suffered a collapsed lung. Made good recovery and feel great in all respects except...... have a spot about half way between my lower abdomen scar and my belly button which is tender to touch. Am very careful not to have anyone bump into me and cannot wear tight jeans or lie or my stomach. Dr kept saying it would get better but it has been worse since I have been back at work full time and is especially bad if I am on my feet for long in that the pain gets worse and my stomach swells up with wind.

Saw the Dr again two weeks ago and he thinks I have adhesions which have stuck a piece of my bowel to my stomach wall. He also said that it there is an outside chance it is not adhesions and that I have coincidentally developed a problem with my bowel (I don't think so!).

I don't relish yet more surgery but also want it sorted. Anyone experienced anything like this and/or have any ideas on success rates etc.

Would be grateful for any advice thats out there and wish you all the best in your decisions/recovery.

Take good care.

Love and hugs

Kathy

Adhesions - oh no!

Hi Kathy,

I had my hysterectomy in February 2002. I recently had more surgery (June 4th) to remove my right ovary and numerous adhesiosn from my bladder, bowel, colon, and liver.

Unfortunately our bodies form adhesions after surgery. Adhesions form as a defense mechanism to the trauma and tissue/organ handling that takes place during surgery.

The only way to positively diagnosis adhesions is by having lapraoscopic surgery.

Here are a few sites and information that better describe adhesions; why they develop, treatment options & possible prevention:

What Causes Adhesions?

How Are Adhesions Treated?
