Finding a doctor

Good Question!!

Do you know anyone that works at the hospital he/she calls on?
Have any friends that are nurses?
Have you talked to others that have had this dr? If so did they go for similar reasons as you? Were they happy with their treatment and recovery?
You could ask his office staff how long he's been in practice? Has he done any special training or "fellowships" in given procedure.
How many times does he estimate he's done the procedure recommended for you?
Ask your primary physician...if you needed a dr. for this, who would you go see? Who would you send your mom, wife etc to?

I don't believe you can ask too many questions!! Can you tell?

We were priviledged in that when it was determined by primary physician...my DH calls on OR staffs so he asked OR nurses who'd they'd LET operate on them! We then chose hospital and Dr. in our insurance plan.
Good luck I hope this helped some!

You can try doing a search at www.healthgrades.com. I think there's a small fee to get a copy of a specific doctor's profile to get info on their specialty, skills, certifications, sanctions (if any), among other things. From what I remember the fee was very small. You can also compare doctors in a particular area to see who meets your needs best.

I hope this helps a little.

Finding a doctor

The surgeon who caught my abdominal mass and a nurse I go to church with both recommended my onc/gyn. They both say he is excellent. However I got a little nervous yesterday after he told me that I am one of his few young patients. (I'm 38). He also told me after the surgery that I was the first patient he'd had with stage 2 pre-cancerous tumors. And how long has he been in practice? Come to think of it, he looks much younger than I do.....

you can try doing an internet search for your states Board of Health Professionals. Can also call the hospital and ask for credentials. Also insurance companies will have information on dr's.
